The Detroit Lions are being told to make a move after the 2026 NFL draft that involves signing a former Packers and Cowboys player.

The Detroit Lions have wrapped up their 2026 NFL draft, but that doesn’t mean their lineup is totally set. Amid the fury of the event wrapping up, the team is being urged to sign a former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys player to perfect their squad.

Even following the draft, the Lions could use cornerback help. It never hurts to have depth in this, or any, NFL position, and cornerback is one of the slots that could still use beefing up. It’s actually one of the few positions that the Detroit Lions still have an insecurity about.

So, if the team really needs a veteran cornerback to add to their lineup, the good news is that there’s one still waiting in free agency: Trevon Diggs.

Detroit Lions Told to Sign Former $47 Million Cornerback After the Draft

Going for Diggs would be a big move from the Lions. His career earnings through 2026, according to research from Spotrac, are around $47 million.

Diggs has proven himself in the NFL. He was with the Dallas Cowboys from 2020 to 2025, and then, he was with the Green Bay Packers last season. With the Packers, during the 2025-26 season, Diggs slotted 27 total tackles and had a 59.8 overall defensive grade from PFF and ranked 68th among 114 qualified cornerbacks.

In a piece out on Monday, April 27, Bob Heyrman of SideLion Report likes the idea of Diggs to the Lions. He calls this a “let’s see what he’s got left in the tank” situation, adding that the Lions still have a lot of questions at the corner position.

“In an era where you can’t have enough corners, adding Diggs at the right price is worth a shot,” he notes. “I am betting that Diggs still has some fat left on the bone at 28 years old, and perhaps last season was more about just getting back to work after a couple of injury-riddled years.”

Heyrman adds, “Again, is he a top corner? No. But he could add some much-needed depth to a fairly lean room. But there is also a risk that this won’t work at all, and there is no tread left on these tires.”

Whenever the Lions can snag a former player from a rival such as the Packers or Cowboys with veteran skills, it’s a good thing. But, the decision will be up to Brad Holmes and the powers at be at the Detroit Lions.

Detroit Lions Get Props for 2026 NFL Draft Moves

Now that the NFL draft has wrapped up, NFL analysts are coming out with their thoughts on it. In The Ringer’s post-draft survey of teams, they gave the Detroit Lions a “B” grade for the picks, saying it was a “classic meat-and-potatoes draft for the Lions.”

In the piece, they note that Holmes and Dan Campbell “rightly targeted the offensive line in the first round, adding a tough and durable right tackle in Blake Miller, adding that the player is “extremely battle-tested and the type of hard-nosed player you’d expect Detroit to gravitate to. He should start right away on the right side as Penei Sewell moves to the left tackle spot.”

Adding rusher Derrick Moore was also a shining move, and he’ll be solid developing next to Aidan Hutchinson. So, it’s a strong draft class for the Detroit Lions, but now, the real work begins of training these new players.
