The New England Patriots are being projected to select Washington Huskies wide receiver Denzel Boston in the NFL Draft, giving Drake Maye a new weapon.

The NFL Draft is one week away, which means the San Francisco 49ers will soon be on the clock. As the team holds control of the No. 27 overall pick, predictions are flying off the board left and right in the hopes of guessing who the team will draft then. According to the Bleacher Report scouting department, the Niners may have their eyes on a new wide receiver.

In the latest Bleacher Report mock draft, San Francisco is projected to draft Washington wide receiver Denzel Boston in the first round. If this happens, the Niners will be deep at that position once again.

The San Francisco 49ers Could Continue Massive WR Room Changes

Here is what Bleacher Report’s Dame Parson wrote about Boston and how he fits in with the 49ers:

“Denzel Boston is a strong fit for Kyle Shanahan’s offense. He wins on contested catches, back-shoulder fades, and working across the middle of the field. He is a near-perfect pick to be Evans’ understudy. The opportunity to provide quarterback Brock Purdy with ample weapons should be a priority for the Niners.”

The 49ers needed to make some moves in the wide receiver room after they chose to essentially part ways with three wide receivers this offseason. Former All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is likely to have played his last snap with the team. Veteran Kendrick Bourne is now on the Arizona Cardinals. Finally, Jauan Jennings isn’t expected to be back with the team.

So, those choices made way for the organization to sign future Hall of Fame wide receiver Mike Evans and former 1,000-yard wide receiver Christian Kirk in free agency. If the team decided to draft Boston in the first round, that would really round out the position group.

What Denzel Boston Brings to the Table

GettyDenzel Boston was a Third-Team All-Big Ten performer last season.

As Parson noted, Boston’s ability to win on all kinds of routes with tough coverage is what sets him apart from other pass-catching prospects. In back-to-back seasons, he has recorded at least 60 receptions and 800 or more receiving yards. His 20 combined touchdown catches over the last two years are also nothing to sneeze at. He was one of two Big Ten wide receivers last season to record 60 or more receptions, 800 or more receiving yards, and at least 11 touchdowns.

Not only could he, Evans, and Kirk form a nice trio, but the 49ers also have former Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Demarcus Robinson and Ricky Pearsall in the fold. The latter reeled in 53 receptions and 528 receiving yards in a much-improved sophomore season. Add in the likes of All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey and All-Pro tight end George Kittle, and this offense can be elite once again.

All eyes will be on the 49ers when they are on the clock at pick No. 27. Part of that is because they only have six total draft picks this year. They have to make them count in a big way.
