New Indianapolis Colts offensive lineman Jalen Farmer

The Indianapolis Colts made their first selection of the 2026 NFL Draft on Day 2, but nabbed quality players such as CJ Allen and AJ Haulcy. But one NFL draft analyst believes the Colts’ best selection came on Day 3.

ESPN analyst Field Yates named 113th-overall pick Jalen Farmer as one of the best picks in the fourth round.

“Farmer is a quintessential “first guy off the bus” type of guard, bringing a mean streak to the field. He has great size and nimble feet, and he can drive defenders with ease when he engages.” Yates wrote. “Farmer will need to work on his hands at the NFL level, but I’m bullish on his strength making an early impact for Indy.”

The Colts organization had some positive words about the offensive lineman, believing he can bring competition to the squad.

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard mentioned before the 2026 NFL Draft that there is value in the latter rounds.

The Colts are looking for some depth at the offensive line after starting tackle Braden Smith left for the Houston Texans on a two-year deal. Favoring other options on the roster, Ballard believes Farmer brings competition to the team.

“Competition makes everybody better,” Ballard said, via the Colts. “It just does, all right. So, he will definitely be talented enough. How fast he gets it and if he earns it, then he’ll play… He fits what we [looked] for.”

Farmer credits his time in the SEC as a major reason why he (and the other Colts draft picks) were drafted by the team, as he believes it is the closest playstyle to the NFL.

Now on the Indianapolis Colts roster, Jalen Farmer will have to prove he can be a quality piece for a team that has strong members among the offensive line.

Colts Track Record Offensive Linemen

Pro Football Focus graded the Indianapolis Colts offensive line as the second-best in the 2025 season. The offensive front only has one first-round selection among the starters, while the rest were drafted in later rounds.

Starting center Tanor Bortolini and right guard Matt Goncalves (fourth and third-round selections by Indy) both switched positions and held it down in their new spots.

Jalen Farmer joins a Colts offense that has starters in four of the five spots, but could make a switch as Bortolini and Goncalves. This would give the former Kentucky Wildcat a better opportunity for playing time and a better chance at being a starter in his rookie season.

Goncalves was drafted as a right tackle and could switch back to his original position, leaving the right guard spot open. Or, fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Jalen Travis, could slot at right tackle after filling in after Smith suffered an injury late in the season.

Either way, Jalen Farmer will need to have a strong training camp to get some playing time in his rookie year.
