The Cleveland Browns used two of their first three picks in this year’s NFL draft to add wide receivers, which renders reasonable speculation about what that means for Jerry Jeudy’s role and future with the franchise.

After selecting KC Concepcion out of Texas A&M in Round 1 (No. 24) and landing another pass-catcher with a first-round grade in Denzel Boston of Washington with the 39th overall pick, Browns general manager Andrew Berry offered a vote of confidence in Jeudy.

“He’s our bell cow,” Berry said on Saturday, April 25, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “With receiver rooms, you can have maybe a ball-dominant player or you can essentially build a basketball team with different skill sets. We prefer the second approach.”

“Now ,don’t get me wrong. I’ll take Calvin Johnson if he’s out there,” Berry continued. “But we feel like we have a nice, well-rounded room with speed, (yards after catch), contested-catch ability [and] separation.”

A bell cow essentially means the leader of a group, though Jeudy’s willingness and ability to be the WR1 in an offense that is suddenly replete with young options at both wideout and tight end remains to be seen.

And how effective all those playmakers can be as a unit is also a pressing question that will be answered by the quarterback play of Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson or whoever ends up starting come the regular season.

Jerry Jeudy Potential Trade Candidate, Though Browns Say WR Will Remain With Team

Jeudy had some public spats with Sanders last season, and it at least appears for now that Sanders has the inside track on the starting job heading into the summer.

Cleveland’s additions in the pass game raise questions about whether Jeudy might be expendable via a trade, though Berry has been firm in reiterating that such is not the case.

“We’re really pleased with some of the younger players we have,” Berry said. “Jerry is gonna be a big part of it.”

Jeudy, 27 years old, has two seasons remaining on his $52.5 million contract. He put up career highs with 90 catches for 1,229 yards in 2024, adding four touchdown receptions. However, Jeudy tallied just 50 grabs for 602 yards and two scores last season in a regressive campaign.

Browns Selected 2 Tight Ends in 2026 NFL Draft After Hitting on Harold Fannin Jr. Last Year

After hitting big on third-round tight end Harold Fannin Jr. in the 2025 draft, Cleveland went back to the TE well twice over the weekend.

The Browns added Joe Royer out of Cincinnati with the No. 170 pick in Round 5 and Carsen Ryan of BYU with the 248th selection in the seventh round.

“After Day 2 of the draft, Berry acknowledged that he misjudged the early run on a string of blocking tight ends,” Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN wrote. “Royer, [six-feet, five-inches tall] and 247 pounds, doesn’t necessarily fit the profile of a stout in-line blocker, but he has the size to potentially fill the role.”

“He also has upside as a pass-catcher; Royer didn’t drop a pass in 2025 and averaged nine yards after catch per reception, which was third highest among FBS tight ends last season,” Oyefusi continued. “[Browns new head coach Todd] Monken has had success with two-TE groupings, so Royer could compete for a role alongside Harold Fannin Jr.”
