The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bringing in an undrafted free agent who’s going to get a few double takes when he walks into the practice facility with 6-foot-10, 313-pound offensive tackle Paul Rubelt.

“Another undrafted rookie signing for Bucs — UCF tackle Paul Rubelt, who is 6-foot-10 and 313 pounds and ran a 4.99 40 (yard dash),” Fox Sports NFL reporter Greg Auman wrote on his official X account on Sunday. “Born in Germany, started at left tackle last year, right tackle in 2024.”

The Denver Broncos hosted Rubelt on a Top 30 visit before the draft.

“Per source, Broncos held top 30 visit with Central Florida OT Paul Rubelt,” Denver 9News reporter Mike Klis wrote on his official X account on April 3. “(Crum is) 6-10, 313 — Taller than (6-foot-8 offensive tackle) Frank Crum! Two-year starter at LT and RT. From Frankfurt, Germany. Had a great Pro Day — elite numbers for size. (32-inch Vertical).”

Being on the Buccaneers gives Rubelt a unique opportunity to learn from 2 elite offensive tackles — starting left offensive tackle and NFL All-Pro Tristan Wirfs and starting right offensive tackle Luke Goedeke.

Wirfs and Goedeke are also 2 offensive tackles who couldn’t stay healthy in 2025, missing a combined 11 regular-season games.

Incredible 40-Yard Dash Time Tantalizes Scouts

The truly elite number from Rubelt’s testing is probably his 40-yard dash time, where he came in at a relatively blazing 4.99 seconds — incredible speed for a man his size. Rubelt also showed he has the versatility NFL teams covet over the last 2 seasons, starting 12 games at right offensive tackle in 2024 and 10 games at left offensive tackle in 2025.

“If you take a shot at (drafting) me, I’ll give you my all,” Rubelt told 247Sports when asked what his message to NFL teams was. “Whoever takes a chance on me, they won’t regret it.”

Paul Rubelt Improved Stock at UCF Pro Day

Sports Illustrated’s Bryson Turner put Rubelt at the top of his list of UCF players who improved their draft stock following Pro Day.

“In six seasons with the Knights, the 6-foot-10 lineman started getting regular starting nods during the 2024 and 2025 seasons,” Turner wrote on March 27. “During Pro Day, four of Rubelt’s drills yielded results that would have placed him in the Top 10 among offensive linemen at the NFL Scouting Combine. His broad jump was his biggest highlight, tying for second among the Combine’s linemen with a 9-foot-8-inch leap. This is while weighing 310 pounds and standing 6 feet, 10 inches.”

Greatest German-Born NFL Player Played OT

Interestingly enough, the greatest German-born player in NFL history was also a gigantic human being who played offensive tackle.

Former New England Patriots offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer, 6-foot-8 and 320 pounds, was a 2nd round pick (No. 58 overall) in the 2009 NFL draft out of the University of Houston after he earned All-Conference USA honors in 2008.

Vollmer played his entire 8-year career with the Patriots, blocking for legendary quarterback (and former Buccaneer) Tom Brady, won 2 Super Bowls, was named NFL All-Pro in 2010, and banked approximately $23.3 million in career earnings. He was also named to the Patriots All-2010s Team and All-Dynasty Team.
