Two birds with one stone.
NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY predicted in his most recent mock draft that the New York Jets would trade in front of the New York Giants in the first round to steal away one of their top targets. He predicted that the Jets would strike a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs to move up from pick No. 16 to pick No. 9, just one spot in front of the Giants.
The player that both the Jets and Giants covet is Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson.
“Tyson is believed to be the top receiver on the Jets board, per sources. That’s not groundbreaking news. He’s the top on most every board. He’s the one player in this class who has legitimate WR1 potential,” Hughes explained.
“There’s no question about his draft position if he was healthy,” one anonymous head coach told Hughes. “He might be a top-five guy.”
“Two sources told SNY they heard the Jets were having exploratory conversations about what it would cost to move up for a wideout. One source said he heard the Jets’ original hope was for Tyson to fall to them at No. 16. That, clearly, is not happening. The Jets need to move if they want him,” Hughes said. “The Giants wined and dined Tyson before his workout. Their interest in him is well known. This is a chance for the Jets to jump their cross-town rivals.”
According to the NFL draft value chart, the Jets’ No. 16 overall pick is worth 1,000 points. The Chiefs’ No. 9 overall pick is worth 1,350 points
That 350-point difference is the equivalent of a late second-round pick. The Jets don’t have a late second-round pick, but they do have two front-half second-round draft choices.
One potential deal is a near match on the value chart.
New York Jets receive: a 2026 first-round pick (No. 9 overall) and a 2026 third-round pick (No. 74 overall)
Kansas City Chiefs receive: a 2026 first-round pick (No. 16 overall) and a 2026 second-round pick (No. 33 overall)
This would be a slight overpay for the Jets (10 points). However, that difference is the equivalent of a mid-sixth round pick. An inconsequential difference in a deal like this.
The Giants have won plenty of headlines this offseason after hiring Super Bowl-winning head coach John Harbaugh.
There would be some sweet satisfaction to trading up to land a talented pass catcher to add to the Jets’ offense while simultaneously blocking the Giants from getting what they want.
The Jets need a wide receiver. This isn’t breaking news. However, which one do they want is the big question?
Radio host and analyst Cole Thompson told Jake Asman that he thinks there is only one WR1 in this draft class and the rest are “a bunch of WR2s.” The one receiver he thinks is above the rest is Tyson, he said on “The Jake Asman Show.”

The only big concern is his injury history. Tyson has battled hamstring issues, a serious knee injury, and a broken collarbone. If the Jets traded up to get him, they’d obviously feel pretty good about their medical evaluation of the young man.
