At this point nothing is confirmed, but all signs seem to point to the Philadelphia Eagles trading A.J. Brown after the 2026 NFL Draft, on or after the June 1st date.

The New England Patriots appear to be by far the most likely destination, given that they have the sixth most cap space in the league and a big need at wideout after the departure of Stefon Diggs. And, perhaps most importantly, a huge incentive to make the most out of franchise quarterback Drake Maye’s remaining two years on his rookie contract to return to the Super Bowl after being disposed of by the Seattle Seahawks in the Big Game back in February.

The only real thing left to discuss is what the compensation might look like for Brown. The Eagles want something as close to a first round pick as possible for their All-Pro star, whom they acquired from the Tennessee Titans back in 2022, sending them the 19th overall pick in return.

But in reality, given Brown’s age – he will turn 29 in June – and decline in performance over the past two seasons, that is probably wishful thinking on the part of general manager Howie Roseman.

What Will the Eagles Get for A.J. Brown?

Instead, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer gave some insight as to what he believes the Eagles might actually manage to retrieve in exchange for the former second round pick’s services. He lists two recent trades that lie on opposite ends of the extended range for a Brown trade.

“I’d start with the baseline: the Davante Adams and Quinnen Williams trades were comps the Eagles used to base their ask for a first- and a second-round pick on.” Breer wrote on April 15. “Because it just happened, Williams is an interesting one to look at. He was in the same draft class as Brown, is six months younger, is similarly under a reasonable contract, and the Jets landed a 2026 second-round pick and ’27 first-round pick for him.”

“Conversely, the trade comp I heard other teams use was the 2023 Stefon Diggs deal, when the Bills sent Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick and a ’25 fifth-rounder to Houston for a ’24 second-round pick. Which, obviously, is a substantially lower price than Williams went for.” Breer continued.

Brown Deal Could Land Between Diggs and Williams – Breer

Breer posits that somewhere between the Williams deal; a first and a second, which would likely be far in excess of what Brown would command; and the Diggs trade back in 2024, lies the sweet spot.

“My guess would be Brown lands somewhere in between if he’s sent, as a lot of people seem to be anticipating, from the Eagles to the Patriots. Maybe it would be a 2028 first-round pick (Howie Roseman has taken picks years off before, with Haason Reddick being an example), or a conditional 2027 second-rounder that could become a first-rounder if Brown hits playing time benchmarks (one of the picks in the Cason Wentz deal between the Eagles and Colts had such a condition).”

Certainly Diggs’ deal would appear to be closer to the potential future trade of the ex-Titan, with a second rounder and change appearing to be the most likely compensation for Brown. But if things materially change between now and June 1st, there is no reason that the number could not go drastically up or down.
