Local quarterback prospect Brady Olson, who was named for Tom Brady, shared what it would mean to be targeted by the New England Patriots in the NFL Draft.

Growing up within shouting distance of Gillette Stadium, it’s no surprise that Brady Olson wanted to be a quarterback like his namesake, former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Now, the Bellingham native is hoping to make the jump to the NFL after a pair of college stops in New England.

Olson came out of high school being recruited by several schools in the region, but would ultimately choose to go to play for the UMass Minutemen. In the end, he’d spend three seasons there, including one in which he used a redshirt, and played in a total of 19 games to mixed results. He completed 48.7% of his passes for 1,936 yards and 10 touchdowns.

After the 2023 season, Olson transferred to the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. Over two seasons, he played 26 games, completing 55.6% of his passes for 5,371 yards and 42 touchdowns at the FCS level.

Now, Olson is looking to make a dream come true and play in the NFL. There’s a chance that could even come with the New England Patriots.

Brady Olson on Competing at the New England Patriots Local Pro Day

The New England Patriots recently hosted what was called a Local Pro Day. The idea of which was to get area players, who either grew up in the region or played their college football in the region, to come in and compete ahead of the NFL Draft.

Brady Olson was among the players who the Patriots hosted. That gave him the opportunity to compete for a team that means so much to him.

“Being a Patriots fan growing up, there’s so many memories to choose from,” Olson said, as quoted by Mike Reiss of ESPN. “Having so many Super Bowls, and being able to have all your family together for parties at the house, those are special moments.”

The Local Pro Day gave Olson the chance to work with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Growing up rooting for the Patriots, he’s been familiar with his offenses for years and enjoyed that unique experience.

“His knowledge and information about the game is second to none,” Olson said. “He has a great information bank when it comes to learning football and he gave me a couple really good tips on footwork and timing with receivers in that short amount of time that I’ll carry with me the rest of my life.”

The Patriots, obviously, aren’t looking for a starting quarterback. That’s not a role Brady Olson expects to be filling, either. However, as a potential undrafted free agent, he could come in and compete.

More on the Local Pro Day Hosted by the Patriots

The Local Pro Day was hosted last Tuesday by the New England Patriots. In total, 27 players who either grew up locally or played college locally were in town for the workout. That workout itself would last about an hour inside the WIN Waste Innovations Field House. By 11:30 a.m., most players had left the facility.

The vast majority of the players who attended are expected to either be late-round draft picks or potentially go undrafted. So, this acted as an opportunity for those players to show what they were capable of.

One player who the Patriots seemed particularly interested in was Boston College Eagles offensive lineman Logan Taylor. Mike Vrabel has previously been at Boston College’s Pro Day, where he was seen talking to Taylor. So, he should become a name to keep an eye on for fans.
