Edge rusher Jonathan Greenard experienced a disappointing 2025 NFL season after a Pro Bowl 2024 campaign.

It’s officially NFL draft week, which means major trade speculation and headlines across the National Football League. The Philadelphia Eagles made some very welcome additions during NFL free agency, but with the departure of edge rusher Jaelen Phillips, Howie Roseman may be looking to replace some of that production either with a draft pick or via a draft-week trade.

One potential option on the trade block is Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard. Greenard is a 6-foot-3, 260-pound outside linebacker with a strong ability to rush the quarterback. Philadelphia has hung its hat on defense in the past few seasons by getting to the quarterback, and if they don’t feel like drafting an edge rusher late in the first-round will be fruitful, trading for Greenard is a logical option.

Eagles Trade Idea Lands Jonathan Greenard for Second-Round Draft Pick

The Vikings and Jonathan Greenard don’t seem to be on the right page in terms of contract discussions, and it makes sense when you consider Greenard started just 10 games last season. and posted three sacks.

However, from 2023 to 2024, Greenard established himself as one of the best outside linebackers in the NFL. During his Pro Bowl season in 2024, Greenard finished with 12 sacks, three pass deflections, and four forced fumbles.

Originally drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round, Greenard has tallied 38 total sacks in his six-year NFL career. Vikings’ GM Rob Brzezinski does seem willing to move on from Jonathan Greenard, but the price will have to be right.

In this trade idea, the Eagles would send Minnesota their second-round draft pick (No. 54) in the 2026 NFL Draft in return for Greenard. Is this a deal worth making for Philadelphia?

Jonathan Greenard’s Potential Fit in Philadelphia

Howie Roseman Eagles

GettyThe Athletic’s Zach Berman reported Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles will be focused on offense during the early part of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Well, if the Eagles could pull this off, they’d enjoy the services of a dominant pass rusher that, when healthy, can get to the quarterback in bunches.

With the draft just one day away, the clock is ticking, but the Eagles, who have a pretty complete roster, have the luxury of pulling off a trade like this with their draft assets.

As for Greenard’s fit with Philly? He would slot in as the same role Jaelen Phillips had when the Eagles traded for him late in the 2025 season.

Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis obviously form one of the strongest DT tandems in the NFL, but if Philly could add another strong OLB, who also might be able to play off the ball a bit, then the Eagles might be poised for another playoff run. Greenard has 217 total tackles in his career, and his stats do paint a story that he can also be productive away from the line of scrimmage.
