Former New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss is excited to watch the team in the upcoming year. Bleacher Report reported this on Monday afternoon.
Moss was with the Patriots for a short time in comparison to his time with the Minnesota Vikings. However, he made the most of it. The playmaker was a prolific wide receiver. He had a record-setting season in 2007, and even made it to the Super Bowl where the Patriots put their perfect season on the line against the New York Giants.
He provided Patriots fans with many exciting moments. Now, he is keeping an eye on the Patriots for one specific reason heading into 2026.
“All eyes are going to be on the New England Patriots,” Moss said. “They were the runner-ups last year, so I’m interested to see if the team can eliminate a lot of the noise and get back to an AFC Championship and try to get back to the Super Bowl.”
Moss was acquired by the Patriots from the then-Oakland Raiders for a fourth-round pick. The wide receiver immediately revitalized his career in New England, recording 98 receptions for 1493 yards and 23 touchdowns. The 23 touchdowns were an NFL record. The playmaker helped set records for his quarterback along the way as well. Tom Brady threw 50 touchdown passes in 2007, which was an NFL record at the time.
He went on to have several successful seasons in New England. However, nothing came close to the 2007 campaign. He recorded 69 catches for 1,008 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2008 and followed that up with 83 catches for 1,264 yards and 13 touchdowns. His final season with the Patriots was cut short as he was traded back to the Minnesota Vikings in October 2010 after expressing frustration publicly.
Moss would finish his career with the San Francisco 49ers in 2012 after a stop at the Tennessee Titans in 2010. He appeared in the Super Bowl in what was his final game in the NFL.
The wide receiver would finish his career as one of the most decorated players in the game. During his playing career, he was a six-time Pro Bowl selection and a four-time First-Team All-Pro. He led the NFL in receiving touchdowns five times and was named to the NFL 100 all-time team. Moss received the biggest accolade of the mall, as he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018, going into Canton as a first ballot Hall of Famer.
He certainly understands the mentality that it takes following a Super Bowl run. The Patriots went 11-5 in 2008, after Brady was injured in the season-opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. Safety Bernard Pollard dove into Brady’s leg while he was planted. This caused Brady to sustain a torn ACL and a torn MCL. The team Matt Cassel under center, and they had success. However, they did not make the playoffs the following year.
This year’s edition of the Patriots will be looking to make a run again. They have the sixth-hardest schedule in the NFL, and will face several division-winning teams. It certainly will not be easy. With that being said, the NFL legend is excited to watch this current group. So too are many Patriots fans after a taste of the Super Bowl once again.
