The Denver Broncos were just a win away from their first Super Bowl trip in 10 seasons. But a Bo Nix ankle injury in the AFC Divisional kept the Broncos at a severe disadvantage against the New England Patriots.

With a healthy Nix to start the 2026 NFL season, the Broncos wanted to bolster their offense to improve their already dominant team.

Ahead of the free agency deadline, the Broncos traded for former Miami Dolphin wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

The blockbuster trade for Waddle made for a crowded wide receiver room in Denver. Including two-time Pro-Bowler Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, Pat Bryant, Marvin Mims Jr., Michael Bandy, and Lil’Jordan Humphrey.

With Waddle likely to slide into the WR2 slot, it leaves the question of where everyone else will fall, and how their roles will change in 2026.

Mims however, has acknowledge that his role will be shifting with Waddle’s arrival.

Marvin Mims Jr. Wants to Learn From Jaylen Waddle In 2026

Marvin Mims Jr. is entering the final year of his four-year rookie contract, and with Jaylen Waddle joining a crowded wide receiver room, Mims’ role is bound to change.

Despite the obvious concerns Mims is facing heading into 2026 season, the 24-year-old is keeping an open mind about his time with Waddle.

“Every time I hear about Jaylen Waddle I just immediately think back to his days at Alabama,” Mims said. “The guy was gritty, did a lot. [He was an] explosive, fast, tough player.”

Mims attended an event with wide receiver Pat Bryant on Friday morning at Kaiser Elementary to hand out new pairs of tennis shoes to children. At this event, Mims spoke to the media about how he is excited to get to learn from Waddle this season.

“He’s had a heck of a career in Miami, and I think we are lucky to be with him,” Mims said. “Especially me. Just to be able to learn from him. Hopefully, he can learn some stuff from me. But just to be able to watch him everyday throughout, and get the best out of it. At the end of the day, this is my career as well, and I want to learn as much as I can here.”

Mims mentions learning from former Denver Broncos Jerry Juedy, KJ Hamler, and Tim Patrick as players he has learned from in his career thus far, adding Waddle to the list saying that “it’s a huge blessing.”

All-Pro Returner Marvin Mims Is Embracing Changing Heading Into 2026

As noted, Marvin Mims is heading into the Denver Broncos OTAs with a question mark surrounding his future with the team.

When asked whether or not the receiver has had any contract talks with the organization, Mims said it’s “weird” going into a contract year, but is focused on showing up every day and being a good teammate.

He later adds that he hasn’t personally had any conversations about a contract extension, but says “maybe” his agent has.

Marvin Mims Jr. says he hasn’t had any conversations about a contract extension but “maybe my agent has.”

Said it’s “weird” going into a contract year but also that he’s focused on being where his feet are, being a good teammate and contributing however he can.

“For me personally, I don’t know what can happen,” Mims said. “But I know one thing, and I want to enjoy being a Denver Bronco as long as I can. I’m not really thinking about what’s next.”

Aside from Mims’ contract reaching it’s expiration date, the wide receiver acknowledges his new role with Davis Webb calling plays on offense.

Marvin Mims Jr believes things will change with the Broncos’ offense with Davis Webb calling plays.

He takes pride in making an impact and making plays in many different ways

Mims plays a huge role on special teams, and has earned an All-Pro in 2023 and 2024 for his performance. The 24-year-old is also a huge threat downfield, and is the Broncos’ go-to guy when they need to make a big play.
