The Seattle Seahawks drafted Minnesota defensive tackle Deven Eastern with the 242nd pick of the NFL draft. Defensive tackle is a sneaky need for the Seahawks as Leonard Williams enters the final year of his contract. The team needs depth and options throughout the roster on the interior of the defensive line. Otherwise, the position is an area of major strength on the roster with Byron Murphy III, Jarran Reed, and Rylie Mills in the rotation.
Eastern played four season of college football at the University of Minnesota. He started for three years there. Over his college career, he totaled 97 combined tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.

PFF ranked Eastern as the 238th overall prospect in the NFL Draft, fitting in the range the Seahawks selected him in. PFF gave him respectable grades throughout his career. In 2025, Eastern got a 66 pass rush grade, a 68.3 run defense grade, and a 61.8 pass rush grade in true pass sets.
Dane Brugler of the Athletic ranked him as the 33rd best defensive tackle and gave him an undrafted free agent grade. Brugler noticed that Eastern has a large frame and respectable intangibles for the position. However, Eastern’s flaw is that he failed to really show any upside while at Minnesota and really just projects as a rotational defensive lineman.
Brugler said, “Eastern lacks efficiency and balance in his block reactions, but his frame and presence will be good starting points for a patient coaching staff. He can provide depth as the shade in even fronts or head-up in odd schemes.”

Eastern received a 6.96 RAS Score after participating in the NFL Combine and the Minnesota pro day. Eastern has an elite height (~6’5”) and weight (between 315 and 320 lbs) for the defensive tackle position. He also got 25 bench presses overall, which is average for his spot. He had a great broad jump of 9’4”. However, Eastern faltered in the vertical jump only getting 27.5”. His composite agility drills were bad as well as he only ran a 4.81 second shuttle cone and a 8.03 second three cone.
