Bryson Barnes has earned a minicamp invite with the Cleveland Browns.

The Cleveland Browns are adding another arm to an already-crowded quarterback room — at least for rookie minicamp.

Cleveland has extended a minicamp invitation to undrafted Utah State quarterback Bryson Barnes. Utah State football announced the invite on their social media accounts.

“The Dawg Pound just got another DAWG! Milford’s finest, Bryson Barnes, has accepted a minicamp invite with the Cleveland Browns!” the post read.

Barnes, 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, spent six college seasons split between Utah and Utah State. He walked on with the Utes in 2020 and spent four seasons there before transferring to Utah State ahead of the 2024 season.

Barnes emerged as a dual-threat weapon during his time with the Aggies. He generated 3,543 yards of total offense last year — 2,803 passing and 740 rushing — fifth-best in program history. He accounted for 28 total touchdowns.

Barnes will now get a chance to make an impression with the Browns at rookie minicamp. He’s a long shot for a roster spot, but an opportunity nonetheless for him to show what he can do at the next level.

Browns Added QB Taylen Green in Draft

The Browns enter the offseason with a packed quarterback room and no answer on who will be the starter as of yet. The Browns added Arkansas’s Taylen Green with the No. 182 overall pick in the sixth round. He’ll join Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel on the depth chart.

“The quarterback position is the most important in sports,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said. “With Taylen specifically, he’s a very mature young man, really strong makeup, and he has rare physical gifts. He has size, he has elite speed, he has a big arm. He’s going to need some polish with this game, but he has the work ethic and he has the acumen to do so. So we’re looking forward to adding him to the roster and adding him to the mix in terms of competition.”

In 53 games with Boise State and Arkansas, Green compiled 9,662 passing yards, 59 passing touchdowns and 35 interceptions, while rushing for 2,405 yards and 35 more scores.

Green made a name for himself at the NFL Combine. He posted a 43.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot-2 broad jump, setting quarterback records at the combine. He also ran a 4.36 40-yard dash.

Browns Quarterback Situation Still Unsettled

The Browns got their first look at their quarterbacks during voluntary veteran minicamp ahead of the draft. Sanders and Watson split first-team reps as Cleveland took its initial steps toward identifying a starter.

“The three guys have done a really nice job so far this spring,” Berry said. “We’re fortunate we got three days on the grass during voluntary minicamp. They’re all picking up the offense quickly, working through mistakes and throwing the ball well.”

After starting seven games as a rookie, Sanders appears to have early momentum in the Browns’ quarterback race. Still, Watson looms as the wild card after missing all of last season following a pair of Achilles surgeries. Berry values Watson’s veteran presence in what is a very young quarterback room.

“Deshaun’s great with his teammates and I’d imagine that would continue to be the case,” Berry said. “That group works really well together and they get along well. Taylen will fit in nicely just because of how he’s wired and his work ethic.”

Watson has a lot on the line. He’s heading into the final year of his contract and needs to see the field if he wants to stick around in the NFL.
