New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye went viral following a shot into fans on the golf course
There’s no doubt that New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has developed into one of the top talents in the NFL. On the golf course, however, he’s apparently closer to the average Joe.
Maye was playing at the 2026 Truist Championship Pro-Am. The tournament was being held in Charlotte, meaning Maye had the chance to go back home to North Carolina and play with other local athletes. There, he had a smooth shot off the tee, but that didn’t prevent him from going a bit viral over a bad shot.
The video was posted from a fan’s point of view while Maye walked over to them, looking for his ball. They captioned the video, “POV: Drake Maye hit your dad with a golf ball at the Truist Championship.”

In the video, Maye is seen smiling and joking with the fans, one of whom quips, “He’s been knocked out for the last four minutes.” There’s then a hard cut in the video to a man lying on the ground. The two later shake hands and laugh over the joke before Maye takes his next shot from the wrong side of the trees.

The shot into the crowd was a bad one for Drake Maye. There’s no denying that. However, in a longer cut of footage from Maye playing that the PGA Tour posted, he did show off some impressive skills on the course.

Quarterback. Golfer. Country singer.
The clip includes several other interactions that Maye had with fans. That included a joke that one fan was more than welcome to toss his ball onto the fairway for him. Another time, he’s seen signing an autograph and taking a picture with a young fan.
Anne Michael Maye also makes an appearance in the video, telling Drake that he didn’t have a bad start. From there, the video does cut to what could be considered a bad put. Of course, family is a part of golf for Maye, who notes he golfs with his brothers after being introduced to it at a young age by his parents.
If there are a few issues that Maye does need to work on, it’s his country singing and chipping. The video makes both of those problem readily apparent for the Patriots quarterback.

Back on the football field, much is expected of Drake Maye in his third season in the NFL. After all, in his second season, all he did was become an MVP candidate who led the Patriots back to the Super Bowl.
An anonymous scout recently shared an update on Maye. In particular, that he should take another massive leap as he continues to develop as a quarterback.
“Drake (Maye) is only 23 years old. He’s not done developing yet, not even close,” the scout said.
“As far as expectations for this season, I think he’s bound for another similar jump. His numbers aren’t going to almost double like they did last year, but there is room for improvement there as well. I expect him to improve as a leader, increase his numbers a bit more, and I think the Patriots could well be Super Bowl bound again.”
Importantly, Maye is also going into his second season under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. That means a better understanding of the offense, putting Maye in a situation to more easily succeed.
