Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley future after the season remains in doubt amid firing rumors.

The Orlando Magic were once left for dead prompting plenty of rumors that head coach Jamahl Mosley is a likely candidate to get fired at the end of the season. What happened next was improbable to even Magic fans, as Orlando bounced back from a blowout loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in the Play-In Tournament.

With their postseason hopes on the line, the Magic notched a 121-90 victory over the Charlotte Hornets in the next play-in game to secure the No. 8 seed in the NBA playoffs. Orlando kept the momentum going by jumping out to a 3-1 lead over the Detroit Pistons in the first round.

Has Mosley done enough to save his job with the Magic? Here’s how Bleacher Report’s insider Jake Fischer described Mosley’s job security before the NBA playoffs.

“Orlando, with Jamahl Mosley, is almost certainly going to be making a coaching change,” Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer said in an April 14, 2026, livestream, per MSN.com.

“No matter if they make it into the playoffs… there is a healthy amount of thought around the league that Jamahl Mosley will no longer be coaching the Orlando Magic next season.”

The Magic’s Game 6 Collapse vs. Pistons Prompts Jamahl Mosley Firing Rumors to Intensify

The Magic were up 24 points against the Pistons in the second half of Game 6. Orlando appeared on the verge of advancing to the next round, and it would have been strange for Mosley to get fired after leading the Magic to the franchise’s first playoff series victory since 2010.

Then the unthinkable happened as the Magic offense went cold at historic levels. Orlando went 45 minutes without making a field goal as the Magic missed 23 straight attempts, per ESPN.

Detroit somehow mounted their own blowout win, once again calling into question Mosley’s future in Orlando. The Pistons could become the 15th team in NBA history to recover from a 3-1 deficit to win the series.

Will the Magic Fire Head Coach Jamahl Mosley If Orlando Loses the Playoff Series to Pistons?

Orlando gets one more chance to save their season, but the Magic may also be fighting for Mosley’s future as head coach. An upset in Game 7 could cement Mosley’s status in Orlando for another season, but a loss would make Game 6’s collapse hard to forget amid the Magic’s offensive ineptitude.

“Part of me thinks a Game 7 loss may actually be the best thing for the Magic,” PFSN’s Alex Kennedy detailed in a May 1, message on X. “If Orlando wins Game 7, I can envision a scenario where they talk themselves into keeping Jamahl Mosley, and that would be a huge mistake.”

NBA Rumors Continue Swirl About Paolo Banchero’s Relationship With Magic HC Jamahl Mosley

By playing the team’s best basketball of the season, Orlando was able to quiet questions about Mosley’s future. With the Magic’s season once again hanging in the balance, it is challenging not to think about Paolo Banchero veiled comments about Mosley’s lack of adjustments during the regular season.

At the end of the regular season, The Ringer’s Raheem Palmer reported that the Magic’s locker room was in “major turmoil” with one star pushing the front office to cut ties with Mosley.

“Source: The Magic are dealing with major turmoil in their locker room with my sources saying that a star player is willing to demand a trade if the head coach Jamahl Mosley isn’t fired at the end of this season,” Palmer stated in an April 14, message on X.

Orlando has one more game to save their season, while a loss is sure to prompt plenty of the same questions about Mosley’s job security. A win could do just as much to finally quiet the speculation about Mosley’s future in Orlando.
