Met Gala 2026 Dress Code Revealed
Don't worry, darling—Olivia Wilde understood the assignment at Met Gala 2026.
The Booksmart director arrived at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art in a Thom Browne gown complete with a structural cage on the butt, playing into the May 4 event's "Costume Art" theme and "Fashion Is Art" dress code. (Click here to see all the celebrity fashion.)
Naturally, many fans couldn't help but dote on Olivia's unique take of the theme.
"Olivia Wilde is so breathtaking!" one fan wrote on X. "Not a stitch out of place. Of course Thom Browne fits like a glove."
Meanwhile, another added, "Yess Olivia Wilde surprising all of us with a dress that gives fashion in the front and PARTY in the back."
Of course, Olivia previously teased what was to come, joking in a May 4 Instagram Story, "Mentally preparing for the Met by practicing not ever sitting down or having to pee.”
But Olivia is no stranger to fashion's biggest night, having made her debut in a black halter dress almost 20 years ago at the "Poiret: King of Fashion" celebration in 2007. Since then, the 42-year-old's style has only gotten bolder.
Take her appearance at the 2015 Met Gala, when she rocked a plunging pink Prada gown and adorned with large gems—which she paired with equally bejeweled black gloves and a clutch from the same label—as a nod to the night's "China: Through The Looking Glass" theme.
The following year, she embraced the futuristic aesthetic in a black Michael Kors gown featuring a large metal collar and silver embellishments for the "Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology" exhibit.

In fact, Wilde effortlessly brushed off what others may considered a fashion faux pas when she and then-Vogue China editor-in-chief Margaret Zhang wore nearly identical Chloé gowns to the 2023 Met Gala.

While the two women had different colored dresses, both outfits included deep cutouts with a gold-embossed violin design made famous by late designer Karl Lagerfeld, whose career was being honored that year.
"Great minds," Olivia wrote on her Instagram Story at the time. "If you're gonna twin with anyone, make it @margaretzhang."
Besides, Olivia was just flattered to have been invited to the prestigious fashion fundraiser.
"I just feel so lucky," she told Entertainment Tonight. "This is just a wonderful time."
