Zendaya's Stylist Law Roach Teases What to Expect From Met Gala 2026

You’ll lose your head over these memorable Met Gala looks.

At least that appears to be Jared Leto’s goal with his ensembles on the first Monday in May. After all, he’s brought multiple spotlight-stealing accessories while attending Anna Wintour’s annual benefit for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

Befitting of the 2019 theme focused on camp culture, Jared literally turned heads by carrying an exact replica of his own visage, complete with his flowing brunette hair.

Years later at the 2023 event, which honored the late Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy in the world of fashion, the Oscar winner wore a larger-than-life costume of the designer’s beloved cat Choupette, the head of which he removed on the carpet to reveal his identity.

Of course, Jared wasn’t the only celebrity to think of the feline for their fashion look that year. Doja Cat, notorious for her eye-popping and full-body transformations over the years, channeled Choupette by wearing a prosthetic cat nose on her face and a complementary cat ear head covering.

She even committed to the bit during interviews, answering all of Vogue’s questions at the event with a simple, “Meow.”

While Doja Cat’s hood left her face exposed for her look, Kim Kardashian took her accessories to a whole new level in 2021 for the Met Gala’s exploration of modern American fashion. Indeed, the SKIMS founder covered her face—and entire body—in a skintight black outfit by Balenciaga.

Meanwhile, Cara Delevingne took the opposite approach at the 2022 Gala. Though she first stepped onto the carpet wearing a red Dior suit and black-and-gold cane, she quickly removed the jacket to reveal her bare body was entirely painted gold from the neck down.

As for her eye-popping accessories? A pair of gold nipple covers that matched the elaborate gold chain which wrapped around her neck, across her chest and around her waist.

But her revealing look wasn’t just fashion—it was a statement.

“I've never been more naked in public and showing my psoriasis there was just overwhelming,” Cara told Glamour later that year. “It's not a beautiful thing to have—but you also have to be proud of it.”

“I'm proud of it in the sense that it's something that belongs to me,” she added. “I used to hate my psoriasis, but that only made it worse."

Beyond the likes of Jared, Doja, Kim and Cara, read on to see many of the best Met Gala accessories of all time.

Katy Perry

This California gurl lit up the “Camp”-themed gala with her… literal chandelier of an outfit. As for where she picked up the ensemble? Rather than Home Depot, it was a custom Moschino outfit designed by Jeremy Scott.

Jared Leto

For when you don't have a plus one! Jokes aside, the Gucci-clad actor made 2019 Met Gala attendees gasp with his creepy accessory: a severed replica of his own head.

Lil Nas X

The sun didn’t go down on the rapper’s 2023 look. In fact, he sparkled in silver body paint that matched his custom Dior Men’s thong. The shimmering also extended to the diamond-encrusted cat mask designed by makeup artist Pat McGrath.

Cardi B

The “WAP” rapper took the “Camp” theme to a whole new level in 2019 when she wore a custom Thom Browne gown that featured a 10-foot train, 30,000 feathers and 44-carat ruby nipples designed by Stefere Jewelry. The red-hot ensemble took 35 people over 2,000 hours to create.

Kim Kardashian

The SKIMS founder proved black is the new black at the 2021 Met Gala by wearing a custom Balenciaga outfit from head to toe—literally. The only part of Kim that was exposed was her ponytail, which hung freely from the back of her head covering.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga shut down the 2019 pink carpet with her outfit changes and larger-than-life accessories, including look-at-me umbrellas, a massive telephone, her glam squad and a wagon full of booze and bags.

Doja Cat

Doja Cat channeled her stage name for the 2023 Met Gala theme and wore a prosthetic nose to look like designer Karl Lagerfeld’s famed cat Choupette. Like the crowd’s interest, the singer’s cat ears were piqued atop her head on the hood of her Oscar de la Renta gown.

The House of Gucci actor’s costume on the 2023 carpet was purr-fection as he, too, was inspired by Choupette for his mascot-style suit of the cat. Forgoing the traditional fashion house route for the look, Jared’s costume was created by California-based production studio SCPS.

Grimes

In 2021, the Canadian musician went for a look inspired by Frank Herbert's sci-fi novel Dune, which included a sheer Iris Van Herpen gown and chrome face mask, which was actually an original prop from David Lynch's 1984 film adaptation of the book. Oh, and she also carried a sword repurposed from an AR-15.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Year after year, SJP has made elaborate headpieces her thing at the Met Gala. This Philip Treacy one she wore in 2015, along with an Oscar de la Renta creation, was a standout. When it works, it works!

Does anyone still wear a hat? Well, yes, because the Broadway star donned another head piece to the 2018 event, this time matching her elaborate nativity scene hat and Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda gown to the “Catholic Imagination” theme.

The Dirty Computer singer went for a bright and bold Picasso-inspired ensemble by Christian Siriano at the 2019 fashion affair. Her towering stack of hats by Sarah Sokol Millinery, robotic eye and matching clutch were the perfect finishing touches to her eye-catching vibe.

Cara Delevingne

The supermodel went for gold with this fashion statement in 2022, daring to bare with nipple covers and a glimmering chain that wrapped around her torso. She also exposed the psoriasis beneath her red Dior suit in order to fully embrace her body.

In 2021, the Euphoria star sipped into an alien alter-ego, wearing a silver two-piece Prada ensemble complete with a spidery figure attached to her nose and foggy contact lenses.

Billy Porter

The Pose star arrived at the 2019 Met Gala with six shirtless men carrying him like an Egyptian royal. Along with his arm candy and gold bodysuit by The Blonds, Billy showed off his massive gold wings and diamond-studded headpiece.

Designer Harris Reed, who partnered with Dolce & Gabbana, told Vogue it took 400 hours of "hand-tacking, hand-gluing, hand-embellishing, gold-leafing, finessing" to bring the supermodel's look, including the Vivienne Lake-collaborated hat, to life.
