Although fans went crazy over the pic, documenting what goes on beyond the Met steps—which was co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour—has been a major faux pas since the former Vogue editor-in-chief banned it in 2015.

As for why the fashion magazine's global editorial director—who has overseen the gala for more than 30 years—prefers to keep phones away from the event?

"Anna is sort of an old-school traditionalist," Met Gala co-organizer Sylvana Durrett explained in the 2016 documentary The First Monday in May. "She likes a dinner party where people are actually speaking to each other."

"We aren't sitting over people's shoulders," she added, "but if it's an obvious thing, we might gently remind them."

But that hasn't stopped celebs from snapping a quick pic in the past with Megan Thee Stallion taking selfies with Angel Reese, Doechii, Serena William, Ciara and more at last year's Met Gala. The "Bigger in Texas" rapper, who called the documentation her "Hottie Cam," quipped to Tracee Ellis Ross, "We not supposed to have our phones."
