Got a big event coming up?

E! spoke with Dr. Sheila Farhang, founder of Avant Dermatology & Aesthetics and In-House Dermatologist at Shani Darden Studio in Beverly Hills, for her advice on how to properly prepare for a big event with skincare treatments and products at home.

She advises that “skin tightening for the body or face take at least three to six months” to fully settle and see results. As for any treatments that promote the “stimulation of collagen, which helps tighten and give the skin bounce, and fix crepey skin,” those will take at least three months to heal.

Looking for something with a little less downtime? Dr. Farhang says CO2 peels are “the hottest thing right now” and use fractional lasers to shed outer layers of skin to stimulate collagen production, and can be done two weeks before a big event. But if you’re not quite ready for a laser treatment or peel, a Hydrafacial can be a “really, really nice” way to cleanse, exfoliate, extract and hydrate with minimal downtime.

One product she loves for at home use? The Shark CryoGlow LED Face Mask. But don’t expect immediate results from adding red light into your routine, so start using this a few months in advance.

“You won’t see the anti-aging effects immediately from using a red light mask, but there are studies to support that over time it can really help,” she shared.

For more expert advice from Dr. Farhang and the products you can use for long term and immediate effects, keep reading.

Depuffing At Home Starts With These Tools

If you can’t get in for a professional lymphatic drainage massage on your face, there are tools you can use at home to combat puffiness. One thing Dr. Farhang doesn’t recommend? Directly applying ice to your skin, as it can “cause a little bit of trauma to the skin,” especially if you are on the sensitive side.

The Skinny Confidential Mint Ice Roller for Face

Dr. Farhang says this is a “really good” tool. It’s double-sided, cute, compact, with a classic ice rolling side and a contouring side.

Sephora Collection Rose Quartz Gua Sha

Dr. Farhang says you also can’t go wrong with using a gua sha. This rose quartz tool will make a beautiful addition to your routine.

“Make sure you’re using a good moisturizer or oil, so you’re not doing it on dry skin. Making sure you’re not too aggressive because that can cause red marks or little bruises if you’re doing gua sha too hard,” she advises.

Ogee Jojoba Glow Face Oil

Here’s the perfect oil to use! It’s deeply hydrating and skin-balancing, leaving your skin shielded from stressors.

Advanced Tools & Products to Use in Advance

Much of your skin prep for events should start in advance, working in tandem with any treatments in your regimen. From serums to tools and more, Dr. Farhang shared all of her favorites with us.

Shark CryoGlow LED Face Mask

Shark’s CryoGlow LED Face Mask includes four unique treatments (cryo-inspired tightening and soothing, collagen-boosting wrinkle regimen, glow enhancement, acne clearing) in one.

“It’s a mask, and you put on the red light and cooling at the same time. It’s like an 8-minute treatment and it’s honestly the best. That’s a really good at-home treatment,” Dr. Farhang shared.

SkinCeuticals P-TIOX

Dr. Farhang shouted out this peptide-packed serum as a needle-free alternative to Botox, which “doesn’t work immediately,” but she recommends using “weeks to months beforehand.”

“Miracle in a Bottle” Products That Actually Work

While Dr. Farhang would not advise making any changes to your skincare routine in the days or even in the week leading up to a major event (in case of breakouts, rash, or any adverse reaction), she did share thoughts on “miracle in a bottle” products that she thinks are actually worth it, with fast results.

RoC Derm Correxion Lip Volumizer

Whether you can’t swing lip filler in your budget or just aren’t ready to take that leap yet, Dr. Farhang loves the RoC Derm Correxion Lip Volumizer for a “really good lip plumping effect.” Formulated with 25% plumping ingredients, this volumizes on contact to provide visible fullness and deep hydration.

Peter Thomas Roth Instant FIRMx Temporary Eye Tightener

As the name suggests, this creates an “instant eye tightening,” Dr. Farhang says. If you couldn’t get a good night’s sleep before a major event, this reduces puffiness and dark circles in a snap. However, it may pill under makeup so be sure to do a trial with your glam before the big day.

Medik8 Crystal Retinal Serum

Dr. Farhang shouted out Medik8 as a favorite brand of hers, including their “really amazing moisturizers” and this age-defying vitamin A night serum.
