Fans Spot Editing Error in Ariana Grande, Ben Stiller's Focker-In-Law Trailer

Fans Spot Editing Error in Ariana Grande, Ben Stiller's Focker-In-Law Trailer

A slip-up made it out of the circle of trust.

The trailer for the upcoming Focker-in-Law film appears to have an editing error that shows star Ariana Grande’s stunt double instead of her.

The first full look at Focker-in-Law features a full-circle moment for Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) as he becomes overprotective of his son Henry, (Skyler Gisondo), who announces his hopes to marry his strong-willed girlfriend Olivia (Grande)—in the same way his father-in-law Jack (Robert De Niro) was when they first met. However, as the trailer, released April 15, teases what’s to come, it also revealed a mistake that didn’t get left on the cutting room floor.

In the clip in question, Greg and Olivia are shown racing bikes, with the latter falling off her bicycle. But upon careful inspection, the person taking the tumble doesn’t quite look like Grande.

As one eagle-eyed commenter on YouTube wrote, “The way you can see the stunt double in the [bike] fall scene—I can't.”

Another viewer noted on X, “the obvious stunt double is cracking me up lowkey.”

But mishap aside, some emphasized they were still more than ready for another dose of Focker shenanigans.

“Not a good look when you can see the stunt double in a trailer for a comedy movie,” a fan wrote on X, adding, “Regardless, I'm seated cause I love the Fockerverse.”

While the trailer might have this one mistake, longtime fans of the Meet the Parents franchise will be happy to see the return of Jack’s infamous lie detector test, which he subjected Greg to in the first film. Olivia, a former FBI hostage negotiator, gets hooked up to the polygraph and answers questions about her intentions with Henry.

Unlike Greg, Olivia has a better time of it, impressing retired CIA operative Jack.

“The old machine,” Greg says to Olivia as he walks in on the test. “It's funny to be on the outside, used to being in the hot seat.”

While Focker-in-Law, which releases in theaters November 25, may have a little blunder in its trailer, it is far from the only movie to have an editing error. Read on to check out more mistakes that fans have caught in their favorite films and shows.

One Tree Hill

In one scene, Chad Michael Murray's character Lucas Scott is driving along with Paul Johansson's Dan Scott when Felix Taggaro (Michael Copon) challenges Lucas to a race.

But there's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment when the actors in the Scotts' car are actually replaced by stunt doubles. And now, you won't be able to unsee it.

Freaky Friday

Near the end of the movie, which sees single mother Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her teenage daughter Anna (Lindsay Lohan) switch bodies, Anna's little brother Harry (Ryan Malgarini) is seen arguing with their grandfather (Harold Gould) and they're given a similar fortune.

But before the two experience the same fate, they're tackled to the ground. And it seems the actor playing Harry in this scene isn't the same child star shown throughout the rest of the movie. Instead, he's portrayed by an adult stunt double

The Last of Us

During a wide shot of a snowy bridge that must be crossed by Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in the Feb. 19 episode of the HBO drama, a number of mysterious figures were spotted.

"Brilliant episode," one user wrote on X, "something you might want to fix and reupload though. You can see the film crew in this shot."

Friends

In season 9, episode 15 of the show titled "The One With The Mugging," there is a scene where the camera pans to Joey, played by Matt LeBlanc, with what is supposed to be Jennifer Aniston's Rachel standing in the background. Except it's not Jennifer Aniston. It's her stand-in—and half of her face just visible past Joey.

In the fourth episode of season nine, "The One With The Sharks," Jennifer's stand-in once again makes it into the final cut. Caught by a fan and then shared to X, approximately 12 and a half minutes into the episode, a curly-haired Rachel can be seen at the kitchen table wearing a yellow shirt. When the camera shifts to the table again, Jennifer's straight-haired stand-in has taken her place wearing a blue shirt.

Outer Banks

During season three of the Netflix hit, Drew Starkey's Rafe and Madison Bailey's Kie can be seen running from Vaux Hall. Except it cuts to their characters being played by two men—with one appearing much older than the actor, in particular.

The show also featured a scene of Jonathan Daviss' Pope and Carlacia Grant's Cleo getting on a motorcycle—only you could spot the difference due to Pope's stunt double's lack of hair compared to Daviss'. The same happened with an instance of Kie and Rudy Pankow's JJ riding a bike with mismatched hair color on the latter as well.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

In the 2000 holiday film based on Dr. Seuss' book by the same name, the color of the Grinch's eyes change from a yellowish green—the shade they are for the majority of the film—to Jim Carrey's actual eye color brown and then back again.

"So every time I watch the Grinch I notice this one little mistake they made where they forget either to put his contacts in or they forgot to edit them in afterwards," one TikToker noted. "And so Jim Carrey's brown eyes are just there."

The Bear

In the fifth episode of The Bear's season three, a clip shows Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) wearing his wedding ring on his left hand. However, after a brief cutaway, he is no longer rocking the gold band.

“Love a continuity mess up," one user wrote on X. "One scene he has a wedding ring on, and after cutaway and back … no wedding ring.”

Gossip Girl

TikTokers noticed what appeared to be an editing error during an episode of Gossip Girl—which aired from 2007 to 2012—in which socialite Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) is dressed to the nines—from the waist up.

However, the shot then zooms out and reveals that she appears to be wearing draw-string sweatpants on top of her dress, riding low from the knees down.

"Gossip Girl was so real for letting the whole cast wear sweats and Uggs," one user wrote on TikTok. "Just out of frame."

Sex and the City

Shortly after the Sarah Jessica Parker-led sitcom hit Netflix in 2024, a TikToker spotted a continuity error in the third episode of the series.

And while Samantha (Kim Cattrall) originally dons a green halter dress with a deep V-neck in the hallway as she prepares to enter a party with Carrie (SJP) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis), the outfit is suddenly blue as the trio opens the door to the shindig.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment

Twilight

Fans of the 2008 vampire movie starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner can't get enough of the revisiting the blunders

After all, there is one moment where you can see the filming crew in the reflection of Edward's car window as he drives by and one slip-up where his character closes the trunk of his vehicle twice in one scene.

There are also occasions in which the leading lady was subject to a few inaccuracies herself.

While recovering in the hospital after the final blowout battle with James and Edward, Bella's nasal cannula changes position on her face multiple times, at one point even partly covering her eye. Plus, the lamp sitting on the end table near Edward's visitor's chair moves to a few different places.

CBS Entertainment / Survivor

Survivor

Ahead of the reality competition series' season 48 finale—which was Joe HunterEva EricksonKyle FraserKamilla Karthigesu and Mitch Guerra go head-to-head—fans suspected that CBS accidentally gave away the ending in a sneak peek.

In one clip, Mitch seemed to be walking among a few members of the ousted jury members.

“If you zoom in, it’s very clearly Mitch,” one viewer pointed out on TikTok. “We all expected that, but the fact that they literally spoiled it in a promo is wild.”

Fans also pointed out another spoiler with Kamilla, who was seen wearing an immunity necklace, which would mean Kamilla was among the final three contenders to win the million-dollar prize.

“It aligns with my guesses and what I hoped to see, but come on Survivor,” another user wrote on X May 19. “I’m at least happy not to know which challenge Kamilla wins immunity for.”

Ben Symons/Peacock

Love Island USA

During the seventh season of the Peacock dating series, several fans began to question the editing process.

After all, one user shared a clip of the show on TikTok in which Islander Clarke Carraway was seen wearing a black bikini as she lounged around the villa. Moments later, cameras cut to her sporting a brown one-piece bathing suit, suggesting that the footage may have been captured at a different time.

During another scene, fans also noticed that in the middle of a conversation between TJ Palma and Vanna Einerson, the orange drinking glass she was sipping from seemed to have been switched to a teal one.

“I just wanna know,” a user commented on TikTok, “what’s happening in between.”

Netflix

Don't Look Up

Call it a commemoration?

Although the 2021 Netflix film, directed by Adam McKay, easily caught everyone's attention the moment it premiered in late December (it rose to No. 1 worldwide on the streaming platform within just the first few days), a little chatter surrounded the movie for a completely different reason. After a viewer spotted a masked-up film crew during a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, fans assumed that a small editing error had made its way in.

But, not so fast—according to McKay, that was a frame purposefully left in the final cut to capture the experience of filming during the coronavirus pandemic.

"We left that blip of the crew in on purpose to commemorate the strange filming experience," Adam tweeted in December, adding, "#Don'tLookUp."

Hey, the movie was still nominated for a Best Editing Oscar, so all's well that ends well. But we'll be sure not to look down while watching.

HBO Max

Harry Potter Reunion Special: The Case of the Mistaken Emmas

In January 2022, after a little more than two decades since the premiere of the installment's first film, the highly anticipated reunion, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, hit HBO Max. And since fans have been waiting forever for this magic, it's easily understandable that viewers didn't miss one second of it.

With that being said, it did only take just one second for one viewer to notice an image at the beginning of the special that although was meant to be Emma Watson (who played Hermione Granger in the saga) was actually a photo of Emma Roberts instead.

After the blunder hit social media, producers for the reunion special addressed the error in a statement to E! News: "Well spotted Harry Potter fans! You brought an editing mistake of a mislabeled photograph to our attention. New version is up now."

Harry Potter Reunion Special: It’s a Twin Thing

Yes, there was another photo error spotted in the Harry Potter reunion special after it aired—but to be completely fair, this mix-up is quite understandable since it involved identical twins.

Oliver Phelps, who played George Weasley in the beloved film franchise, confirmed that the HBO Max special mistakenly identified him as his twin brother, James Phelps.

"I guess after all those pranks over the years somebody decided to get their revenge," he wrote on Instagram next to a screenshot of the mistake. But there were no hard feelings, as he added, "It was fantastic to be part of the HP reunion. Hope you all enjoyed it."

Also getting a kick out of the error, Tom Felton, who played villain Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, commented, "It was my doing. #weaslebee #returntohogwarts."

HBO

Game of Thrones

During the fourth season of the HBO hit series, Game of Thrones, fans were extremely surprised that amongst the metal and wooden silverware they were used to seeing, they also spotted a very modern-day Starbucks cup in the mix.

In response to the now-infamous 2019 episode, HBO issued a statement acknowledging the time-defying cup, saying, "The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake." Referring to Emilia Clarke's character, the network jokingly added, "Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea."

Alas, if you're looking for it now, the cup has been edited out from the episode.

Paramount Pictures

Braveheart

Set in the late 13th-century, the 1995 film Braveheart followed Sir William Wallace (portrayed by Mel Gibson) as he became one of the main leaders during the First War of Scottish Independence. And since cars weren't invented until the late 19th century, fans were shocked when they noticed a white vehicle sitting in the back of the battlefield in one scene.

Although the shot lasts less than two seconds, it was enough for us to remember what time period they were truly filming in.

Universal Pictures

Gladiator

Another film set in the earliest of times that became a smash when it premiered in the early aughts would be Gladiator. Since the movie is set in 180 AD, it only made sense that most actors were spotted in either attire suitable for battle or outfits fit for the time period.

That is, until fans noticed that within one quick shot of a Colosseum crowd, there stands a man wearing a plain white T-shirt and jeans—both items we're guessing even members of the Roman Empire didn't have access to.

Warner Bros.

Cats

When the 2019 musical movie, based on the 1981 stage adaptation, premiered, the cast ensemble including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, Judi Dench and James Corden was enough to get people excited for some good mew-sic.

However, the movie wasn't well-received by critics, who pointed out that the film's visual effects and editing left much to be desired. One notable instance was when viewers noticed that Judi's very human hand was accidentally left sticking out of her CGI fur-filled cat body. The Hollywood Reporter noted director Tom Hooper updated future versions of the film shortly after its release.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

In the 2002 movie, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the character of Éomer is played by Karl Urban—except as some fans noticed towards the very end, at one point, he simply is not. While Karl's character is meant to be sitting on a horse alongside his peers, it's actually the face of his stunt double that made the cut instead.

During the director's commentary for the movie, per WhatCulture, Peter Jackson admitted that they just didn't get to replace the face before the movie hit theaters.

Netflix

Emily in Paris

There's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it editing error in Emily in Paris season three, episode three. Specifically, after boss Madeline (Kate Walsh) tells Emily (Lily Collins) that it's time for her to return to Chicago, the young marketing maven turns to the window, where we glimpse not one, but two Eiffel Towers. The first shot of the Parisian landmark appears quickly on Emily's left, before reappearing outside the window to her right. Mon dieu, right?

Netflix

Selling Sunset

During season five of the Netflix reality show, Christine Quinn arrived to Chelsea Lazkani's soirée dressed to impress in a bright pink frock and a light blue fascinator on her head. However, seconds later, the self-proclaimed show villain was seen wearing a large pink hat that matched her dress. A head-turner, indeed.

"Not christine's hat changing in the middle of a scene lmaooo," one viewer wrote on X, while another added of the gaffe, "The continuity editor on this show is for s--t."
