Don't Break These Met Gala Rules—Or You Won't Be Invited Back
Madonna is striking a pose at the 2026 Met Gala.
Indeed, the “Vogue” hitmaker dressed to impress at the annual fundraising event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City May 4.
Staying true to this year’s “Costume Art” theme and “Fashion Is Art” dress code, Madonna wore an ethereal black gown by Saint Laurent on the steps of the Met complete with a massive black headpiece in the shape of a sail boat. Not only that, but the Grammy winner brought seven female helpers with her as she made her way down the red carpet. (See every star's fashion here.)
The ladies in waiting—who wore sheer blindfolds over their eyes and simple dresses in varying muted colors—each held up a piece of Madonna's mile-long train as they posed for pictures in unison together.
To top off her gothic look, Madonna rocked long black hair.
But this wouldn’t be the first time the “Like a Virgin” singer has donned an unforgettable Met Gala look. After all, she stunned at the 2025 event in a cream Tom Ford suit for the night’s “Tailored for You” dress code.
And the queen of pop goes nowhere without making a fashion statement. To accessorize, the 67-year-old held a cigar as she made her way down the red carpet, taking a puff while strutting past photographers.
And just a few years prior, Madonna—who has been a regular attendee at fashion’s biggest night since 1997—made waves when she attended the 2016 Met Gala in a skin-baring Givenchy outfit, which featured provocative cutouts.

After showing off her daring look at the "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”-themed soirée, she shared that her outfit choice was not only a fashion statement, but also a “political” one.

“The fact that people actually believe a woman is not allowed to express her sexuality and be adventurous past a certain age is proof that we still live in an age-ist and sexist society,” Madonna wrote at the time in a since-deleted Instagram post, per Vanity Fair. “I have never thought in a limited way and I'm not going to start. We cannot [a]ffect change unless we are willing to take risks.”
“By being fearless and by taking the road leas [sic] traveled by, that's how we change history,” she added. "If you have a problem with the way I dress it is simply a reflection of your prejudice. I'm not afraid to pave the way for all the girls behind me.”
