Hilaria Baldwin Says 26-Year Age Gap With Alec Baldwin “Sounds Ridiculous”
Alec Baldwin's goal for his kids isn't impossible.
The Mission: Impossible–Rogue Nation actor shared the powerful message he's instilling in his and wife Hilaria Baldwin's children: Carmen, 12, Rafael, 10, Leonardo, 9, Romeo, 8, Eduardo, 5, Maria Lucia, 5, and Ilaria, 3.
"I want my kids to grow up having hope," Alec exclusively told E! News at the premiere of the documentary Gaslit June 12, "because right now it's more hopeless than I've ever seen."
The political activist—who is also dad to daughter Ireland, 30, with ex-wife Kim Basinger—continued, "We've got to continue to fight to prove to our children that you got to keep fighting. You got to have hope, and you got to keep fighting to take the reins of power in our society, and that responsibility—that awesome responsibility—away from people who are going to abuse it."
On a less serious note, Alec, 68, went on to joke that he previously aspired for his children to reach a different goal.
"For a while, I thought I just wanted them to push my wheelchair," he said. "I say, 'I want you guys to work out and get strong because you're going to be pushing the old man in my chair before long.'"
Yet, Alec has shared that being an older dad comes with its own challenges. After all, the It's Complicated star was in his mid-50s when he and Hilaria, 42, welcomed their first baby together in 2013.
"These kids are gonna turn around and they're gonna be ready to go to college, and I'm gonna be old," Alec said on a 2025 episode of The Baldwins. "I'm gonna be old 15 years from now. I'll be 80."
"I try not to think about that," he admitted. "What I need is more time with my kids, you know?"

And while Alec and Hilaria may have 26 years between them, the couple—who tied the knot in 2012—find humor in their age difference.
“Take a 27-year-old yoga instructor married to a rich and famous older man—it sounds ridiculous,” Hilaria told the Daily Mail in an interview published May 29. “It sounds like a bad SNL sketch.”
"It worked out luckily, but we poke fun at each other in our family all the time,” she added. “I think people expect that Alec wanted somebody he could boss around, and we’re on the same level together."

Alec Baldwin told the New York Times he gave his future wife, then Hilaria Thomas, his number upon meeting her at Pure Food and Wine in New York in February 2011. The two played phone tag until they finally arranged a time to meet for dinner.
That August they enjoyed their first US Open together, one of Alec's favorite events.

Alec looked into his future and saw Hilaria at the 10th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation's "An Enduring Vision" benefit at Cipriani Wall Street in October 2011. They moved in together the following month.

Hilaria accompanied Alec to the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. "I've dated a lot of people since my divorce, and have thought a lot about what I wanted and what I wanted to do," he said. "I thought about it too much, I suppose. I wasn't really ready to take that chance and to act until I met Hilaria."

The couple are now parents of seven, welcoming Carmen Gabriela (Aug. 23, 2013), Rafael Thomas (June 17, 2015), Leonardo Ángel Charles (Sept. 12, 2016), Romeo Alejandro David (May 17, 2018), Eduardo "Edu" Pao Lucas (Sept. 8, 2020), María Lucía Victoria (Feb. 25, 2021, via surrogate) and Ilaria Catalina Irena (Sept. 22, 2022).
