Prince William, Kate Middleton Support King Charles III After Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Arrest

King Charles III and Queen Camilla are getting the royal treatment Stateside.

The British monarch and his wife of 21 years crossed the pond on April 27 to mark 250 years since the United States of America announced its independence from Great Britain.

Once they touched down at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, the royal couple deplaned and were greeted with flowers by children of British military families that are based in the U.S. They then journeyed to Washington D.C., where they were greeted by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

After posing for pictures in front of the White House, the world leaders stepped inside for a private tea. Later in the day, Charles and Camilla are expected to take a tour of the White House beehives and attend a garden party at the residence of the British Ambassador to the U.S.

A full ceremonial welcome for the King and Queen will take place April 28 at the White House.

Buckingham Palace confirmed in late March that King Charles—dad to Prince William and Prince Harry—and Queen Camilla would be making the trip over before continuing on to visit the British territory of Bermuda.

“On advice of His Majesty’s Government, and at the invitation of The President of the United States,” a March 31 Instagram post from the Royal Family explained, “The King and Queen will undertake a State Visit to the United States of America.”

The post continued, “Their Majesties’ programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the UK and the US, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence.”

As to what his visit will entail, according to the BBC, the king is expected to address congress and attend a banquet dinner at the White House.

This marks the royal couple’s first official state visit to the U.S., taking place over a year after Trump, 79, and his wife of over 20 years visited the U.K. in September 2025. Their trip to Windsor Castle included a lavish state banquet with special guests like William and Kate Middleton.

King Charles’ historic U.S. trip also comes over a month after his brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor—formerly known as Prince Andrew—was arrested for suspicion of misconduct while in public office on Feb. 19.

Authorities from the Thames Valley Police allege that Andrew shared confidential information with his friend Jeffrey Epstein—who died by apparent suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges—while serving as a British trade envoy.

Though Andrew has yet to publicly address these allegations or his arrest, he has vehemently denied any allegations of sexual misconduct associated with his and Epstein’s friendship.

King Charles, who stripped Andrew of his royal titles in October, condemned his brother following his arrest.

"I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office,” he shared in a Feb. 19 statement released by Buckingham Palace. "What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.”
