Why Derek Hough's Wife Hayley Says Her Heart Is “Breaking” After Baby
Securing this Mother’s Day gift was no waltz in the park.
Derek Hough made that clear as he revealed the big surprise he had for wife Hayley Erbert on Mother’s Day.
The 40-year-old explained that the couple—who share 4-month-old Everley Capri Hough—had been enamored by a beautiful wooden table at their baby shower venue last year. And Derek decided to buy it as a gift so they would “always remember that beautiful moment.”
“It was absolutely huge,” he detailed in a TikTok on May 11. “So massive. It took like seven guys to carry this thing through our house.”
After the movers placed the table, the Dancing With the Stars judge had a team of people planting succulents in the middle of the tabletop, which he said were “signifying life and growth and strength.”
“I love that we got to enjoy this table at the baby shower celebrating Everley’s arrival,” he continued, “and now someday, Everley can sit at that table and we can all enjoy it all together.”
The Nashville actor also shared a sweet tribute to his wife, saying in another TikTok, “I’m in awe of you every day. Here’s to many more Mother’s Days with Everley and our growing family.”
As for his own parenting journey, Derek previously opened up about becoming a dad in February, admitting the timing was a bit surprising.
“I grew up in Utah where you get married at 19, you have kids at 20, 21,” he told E! News on Feb. 4, “so it's crazy that I'm 40 years old and I'm just now entering into this chapter.”

Despite starting a family later than some of his peers, the dancer shared that fatherhood has given him a new lease on life.
“I was like, ‘Wow, I've done so much in my life already, and now I get to start over,’” he said. “It’s all brand new. I get to do this whole life thing, but in a totally different way now, and it has a lot more meaning and fulfillment and excitement.”
