Inside Tennis Player Casper Ruud and Maria Galligani’s Timeless Wedding in Mallorca

Maria Galligani caught the Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud’s eye when they were growing up near each other in the suburbs of Oslo. “Maria, on the other hand, probably had no idea who I was, since I was two years younger and she was more interested in the older boys at the time,” he tells Vogue.

It wasn’t until March 2018 that the two were officially introduced by Casper’s best friend, fellow tennis player Joachim Bjerke, at an Oslo nightclub. “We stayed in touch, and our first date took place a few months later on a tennis court when I was home between Wimbledon and my next tournament,” says Casper. “Maria arrived at our local tennis club—where she had also played as a child—wearing a white Stella McCartney tennis dress, and the rest is history.” By September, they would make it official on a trip together to Mallorca.

The couple would take the next big step in their relationship while visiting the Maldives in November 2024. Casper proposed after the pair spent the day enjoying the beach. “When we returned to the little beach bungalow where we were staying, we played a game of backgammon, which Casper won—as usual,” says Maria, who works as a psychologist and helps with her family’s tabletop business. “I was tired of losing and went down to the water to watch the sunset. After a while, Casper joined me, gave me a hug, and said he had something that he thought would cheer me up.” That’s when he got down on one knee. “It could not have been a more perfect setting: a sunset on the beach, salt water in our hair, and sun-kissed skin,” she remembers. Since the proposal was at the beginning of their trip, the newly engaged pair was able to spend the next few weeks in celebratory bliss.

The couple decided to tie the knot in Mallorca, where they went on their first trip together. “We have returned many times since, both for work and for holidays,” notes Maria. The celebrations would take place over the long weekend of June 11 to 14 at the Grand Hotel Son Net, complete with a welcome party and a sports day with a golf tournament, yoga, and a garden party. “We wanted a wedding full of life and love, where our guests could gain insight into—and share—the love we have for each other,” the bride says.

There was one very special guest in attendance as well: the couple’s daughter. “Even before getting engaged, we had already started dreaming about starting a family, so we tried to time things in a way that would allow us to have the child we dreamed of included in the ceremony,” they share. “She was born on January 30, 2026, making her both the youngest and the most important guest at our wedding.”

The couple took their time with wedding planning, working with event planners Off Piste to execute their vision. “The choice felt natural because one of our closest friends works there—and they are the best in the country,” the couple explain. “We especially appreciated that they are based in Oslo, making our meetings convenient and close to home.”

For her trip down the aisle, the bride worked with another friend, the Norwegian designer Ove Harder Finseth. “It was a dream to work with Ove,” Maria says. “Ove told me that his creative process is deeply rooted in getting to know the bride’s personality before he begins designing.” After their discussions, the designer created a strapless number with ruching at the bodice and a lace cape with a hood. Maria paired the gown with Manolo Blahnik shoes and Ole Lynggaard jewelry inspired by nature. “I wanted my overall look to feel natural and effortless,” she says.

For the groom’s look, he wore a bespoke tuxedo made by tailor Skabo, which is based in Oslo. “I actually brought both a black and a white jacket because I was unsure which color I wanted to wear,” says Casper. “I started the day and the ceremony in the black jacket and changed into the white one when we sat down for dinner.”

The celebrations began on Thursday evening with a welcome dinner featuring a Spanish menu and a dress code of colorful attire. The bride went against tradition and chose to wear a printed orange Etro dress for the occasion. “She felt the brand’s designs suited both the setting and the location perfectly,” says the groom. After a morning of golf, yoga, and hiking, the couple and their guests got together for a tennis-inspired garden party complete with tennis ball decor and a “Wimbledon white and green” dress code. The bride wore a white Jacquemus dress to fit the theme.

The sun was shining on Saturday morning as the couple got ready for their wedding day. The ceremony scene was set with a backdrop of mountains, palm trees, and plenty of florals. “I was quite nervous before walking out. When I saw Maria walking toward me with her father, it was difficult to hold back my tears,” says Casper. “I felt emotional, grateful, lucky, and happy all at the same time.” The ceremony featured a few musical performances, as well as a poem written and recited by the bride’s sister, Julia. “After we had both said ‘I do,’ the atmosphere became playful and celebratory, and we walked back down the aisle to ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell,” they share.

Guests mixed and mingled at the cocktail hour, while the couple went off with their photographer, Eline Jacobine, to take portraits. The reception dinner featured toasts from the couple and was followed by a night full of dancing.

Reflecting on the weekend, the newlyweds say, “We are, of course, incredibly happy. It truly felt like the best weekend of our lives, and we were able to celebrate it with all of our closest family members and dearest friends. It became everything we could have dreamed of.”
