Welcome back to the Met Gala, Naomi Osaka!

For the tennis star’s first appearance on the Met steps since co-chairing the event in 2021, she picked out a custom two-piece set from couturier Robert Wun. “Obviously, a lot of people know me for my tennis outfits, and the Met Gala is the grand slam of fashion,” Osaka told Vogue in an exclusive interview. “To have the opportunity to be here and express my style on this stage is something that’s really cool for me.”

This was hardly Osaka and Wun’s first collaboration. For the 2026 Australian Open, Osaka wore a custom Nike x Robert Wun tennis kit that even included a signature Wun umbrella and hat. But it wasn’t until their Met Gala fittings at the designer’s studio in London that the two finally had the opportunity to meet in person.

“I was so appreciative to meet him and see how he works,” says Osaka. “He didn’t have an ego and was just willing to change things to make me more comfortable or hear my perspective on things.”

The result of that meeting was a look that merged Wun’s penchant for dramatics (remember his wine-stained wedding gown for spring 2023?) with Osaka’s natural ability to make fashion headlines. “The look debuts with a two-part act on the carpet. First is a sculpted ivory coat, with open seams exposing red crystals from within, adorned with stripped feathers flaring outwards like a fountain shape,” explains Wun. Then comes the interior portion: a stunning fitted red crystallized gown that features over 659,000 stitches of intricate embroidery. “It totals over 3,280 hours of handiwork and thousands of faceted Swarovski crystals in four shades of red that illustrate the human anatomy, needle by needle, crystal by crystal,” says Wun.

“I’m blown away by the whole creation,” says Osaka—and she isn’t alone.
