How to Get the Model Off-Duty Look in 4 Easy Steps
Christina Holevas · 2026-05-25 · via Vogue

It goes without saying that models are an essential part of the fashion week ecosystem. On the runway, they’re tasked with bringing a designer’s vision to life. But outside the shows, their role is equally influential. In the world of street style, models offer a particular brand of nonchalant cool that the industry has long been obsessed with. It’s what the fashion crowd refers to as “model off-duty” style, and it remains one of the most closely watched and emulated aesthetics. So what exactly defines it?

Of course, models off duty are hardly a monolith, but there are a few observable patterns. Easy basics are chief among them: wide-leg or straight-leg jeans, simple trousers, and utilitarian outerwear like leather jackets, trenches, and field coats, always worn a little looser and relaxed. There’s often a tomboy sensibility at play too, with vintage tees and lightly distressed knits. Still, the look rarely feels boring. There’s usually a fashion-forward twist woven in—whether that’s the latest It bag, a great pair of designer sunglasses, or a hyped sneaker.

If you’re looking to dress like a model off-duty (and why wouldn’t you be?), shop the looks below.

Slouchy Leather Jacket + Distressed Jeans

Distressed, or even reworked, jeans and a leather jacket are a classic model-off-duty combo. Just add a ringer tee, black kicks, sunnies, and an It bag.

An Oversized Trench + Baggy Jeans

When it comes to slouch, more is more—models love an oversized look. Here, a roomy trench meets wide-leg jeans, flat sneakers, and a baby tee.

A Field Jacket + Denim Midi

Put a model-off-duty spin on a pleated denim midi by pairing it with simple, boyish extras, like a field jacket, sleek tank, and thong sandals.

A Suede Bomber + Classic Denim

Models are often spotted outside the shows in classic blue jeans and a bomber. Pair this suede version with a knit tank and raffia flats for a spring-friendly look.
