The Wait Is Over: Marc Jacobs Beauty Is Finally Available...

Marc Jacobs Beauty is back, but not as a replica of its 2010s heyday. Like the heroine of a classic ’90s makeover montage, the brand has returned with a noticeably different point of view. The original line launched in 2013 with sleek black packaging and high-impact formulas that fueled an era of YouTube beauty tutorials long before TikTok became the industry’s driving force—all until it shuttered in 2021, much to beauty lovers’ dismay.
Fast-forward five years, and the designer’s Spring 2026 RTW collection, Memory Loss, offered the first hint of what was to come. Models walked the runway in pastel washes of shadow, plush lips, and exaggeratedly flushed cheeks. “Joy and pleasure is hugely important [to me], especially when there’s so much stuff in the day that isn’t playful or joyous,” Jacobs said at a press preview of the new products and the forthcoming campaign, adding that he hopes each product brings a sense of play to one’s everyday makeup routine.
“There is that pin of nostalgia, but it doesn’t feel overly referential,” Jacobs said. “It’s almost like, you pulled a lot of archive pieces.” This reimagined version sports packaging that lands somewhere between the polished femininity of Daisy eau de toilette and the mischievous spirit of Heaven by Marc Jacobs. Packaging design itself began, fittingly, with Jacobs sketching ideas the same way he approaches fashion collections. Each product is topped with a metallic balloon-like detail that looks as though it belongs on the side table of someone flipping through aughts zines while sitting upon an inflatable armchair.
Naturally, Jacobs also infused an undercurrent of rebellion. That attitude comes through most clearly in the product names, which he describes as ironic and slightly perverse. Consider the Born Star single eyeshadows or the Heart On lipsticks: “I felt that we should kind of counter the sort of sweetness of the packaging with names that were a bit more provocative and naughty.” Across the eye, cheek, and lip categories, shades span from understated neutrals to unapologetically bold metallics and saturated pops of color.
For those ready to finally shop the long-awaited relaunch, you couldn’t be in better hands than me. When it comes to Marc Jacobs, I know ball. I’m deeply familiar with his Vivienne Westwood lore, the controversial grunge-ification of Perry Ellis in the ’90s, and his downtown-cool friendship with Sofia Coppola—and yes, I’ve been to the Heaven by Marc Jacobs store on North Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. Combining all that with my credentials as a beauty writer, shopping expert, and former enthusiast of the original line, I approached the relaunch with cautious optimism—and a genuine appreciation for the whimsy woven into each product. Not to mention, I applied nearly all of them in the morning and sported them until well past EOD. Ahead, Vogue’s Kiana Murden and I give an overview of each of the products. Why We Love It: Somewhere between a creamy kajal and a gel sits Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Drawn This Way eyeliner pencil. The sharpenable liner, of course, sports a star on the cap—a motif Jacobs carried across all his eye products. Take your pick of matte shades—from neutrals to loud pops of color—or metallics; either way, the pencil boasts major staying power thanks to its waterproof formula. While it’s not the type of skincare-makeup-hybrid pencil the beauty world has come to be used to, the real perk of this formula is how incredibly long-wearing it is. The brand even promises up to 24 hours of wear.
“I opted for the shade You Wish (a matte, chocolate-y brown), and on first impression, the pencil glided on, tug-free, and blended easily. So easily, in fact, I didn’t even use a brush to blend and opted for my ring finger instead. As someone with very oily skin, most of the time when I apply a pencil eyeliner, it drains to the outer corner of my eye within the hour, and requires regular checks in the mirror to swipe it away. “I will start by saying I am not an eyeliner girl—but this one might make me a convert. For my trial, I kept it classic with shade No Shade—a rich black matte. It swiped onto my eye with shockable ease, delivering saturated, smudge-free pigment in the process. Why We Love It: Those who love a mascara that’s equal parts volumizing and lengthening will love this pick—don’t worry, when we say volumizing, we don’t mean like the mega-volume falsies in Jacobs’s iconic Spring 2024 RTW collection. Instead, the mascara leaves behind a more approachable, yet noticeable definition. Aside from being another long-wearing, smudge-free product, the formula is also infused with skin-care-grade ingredients, including peptides and clover flower extract, for lash conditioning.
“In a single swipe, Flashes mascara lifted and defined my lashes without weighing them down. Plus, by the end of day I didn’t notice any flaking or smudging. The brown shade, Cocoa, that I picked is lovely and subtle, though I do think it would be better suited for someone with lighter hair than mine. Why We Love It: To open these star-shaped single eye shadows, swivel-slide the lid upward. Described as a cream-to-powder formula with up to 14 hours of crease-proof wear, this offers buildable color payoff to create a look as subtle or intense as you’d like. So, while you may find the first swipe is lighter than expected, that’s actually to our benefit—ensuring your look always looks perfectly blended. There are four matte shades, ranging from nude to brown and burgundy. But the real fun comes in with the metallic, reflective shade, which adds a major pop of multitonal color.
“I know, I know, I picked all the neutral shades to sport on camera—but that just speaks to my personal preferences. The metallic shades definitely have a more immediate color payoff upon first swipe. That said, I like a buildable color, because it’s much easier to ensure my eye look has perfectly diffused edges. While $29 may seem steep for a single shadow, I will give the product credit again for its longevity. Be prepared for one of the most unique textures you’ve likely felt: The super bouncy, cool-to-the-touch jelly is a sensorial treat. Just tapping into the product a few times achieves major multidimensional shimmer. Trust, there’s no uncomfortable scratchy feeling or annoying fallout. Why We Love It: First and foremost, the product name is hilarious, so feel free to give a giggle (or clutch your pearls, if you’re more of an uptight type). Jacobs’s goal was to create a lipstick that enhances the appearance of balloony lips, with a balloon-like heart on the cap to match. The finish of Heart On is shiny, no doubt, but not in a heavy satin lipstick sort of way. Think: a texture similar to Glossier’s Gen G or Merit’s Signature Lip with a lightweight, balmy feel. The formula is packed with skin-loving ingredients, including vitamin E, peptides, and botanical oils, for added hydration. When paired with your favorite liner (and perhaps overlined slightly), lips do, in fact, have a more pillowy appearance.
“I’m a known lipstick hater, and there are a million things that put me off about most formulas—the heavy feel, the texture, the way products crack and fade unevenly. I do, however, make exceptions for more balmy or semi-sheer formulas. Yes, I will be adding Heart On to that list of exceptions—and of my overall top contenders for the brand launch—for its lightweight feel, and the way it fades gracefully over time rather than smudging or pilling. “As we’ve established several times over, the product names never fail to give me a giggle. Namely, my blush shade of choice: Freaks and Cheeks, a deep plum color. On application, it’s safe to apply this pick straight to your face without concern of overdoing it—the color isn’t completely opaque, instead imparting more of a wash of color with a natural finish. “As a real blush lover, this will be the MJB product I reach for most frequently. It is hard to find a reliable formula—on the texture, pigment, and shade range front—and getting shade Cherry Tease felt like hitting the jackpot. Though it’s described as a deep blue red, it has a bit of a fiery side that lands well on my neutral-golden undertones. And with benefits for both the cheeks and lips, the opportunities are endless.
