Katie Holmes has long been a lover of the lithe and airy, and a particularly soft, natural color palette: besotted with butter yellow, rather partial to a pop of tomato red, sometimes a seasonal pumpkin spice. Earlier this week, she experimented in the summer goth.
The actor and filmmaker appeared at Max Mara’s resort 2027 collection runway in Shanghai, China. She wore a full look: a softly structured black tuxedo blazer with silky lapels, a black jersey top, high-waisted silk column skirt with a whisper of a train. She styled it with angular sunglasses and a sparkly boxy bag.

Lintao Zhang/Getty ImagesA full monochromatic moment isn’t new for Katie Holmes—she wore a spectacular top-to-toe scarlet red Fforme look at the brand’s spring 2026 New York Fashion Week show—but all-black is quite a venture away from her summery color palette. Holmes has firmly established her summer-in-the-city cool girl wardrobe with billowing shirts and easy denim, usually accompanied by a covetable it-bag of some sort. This Max Mara fit didn’t feel too far out of her wheelhouse, thanks to the brand’s luxe fabrications and flowing, feminine shapes.

Last week, she stepped out for Chanel’s annual Tribeca Festival lunch sporting a tried-and-true formula: a creamy tank, tailored black trousers, and a cylinder shaped bag. Holmes also debuted a fresh new bob cut to her clavicle and dyed chocolate brown. For another appearance at Tribeca Film Festival, Holmes also got back to her roots to offer two fresh takes on boho-chic dressing. First, wearing a silky, champagne-colored Chloé dress, and later in the evening for the after-party, a peachy Magda Butrym silk-satin lace slip dress toughened up when worn over black leather pants
When Katie Holmes gets back to New York, expect a return to downtown cool form.
