Last night, Game 3 of the NBA finals took over New York City. The buzz was palpable at Madison Square Garden, where stressed fans watched as the San Antonio Spurs faced off against the New York Knicks (and, ultimately, defeated them). The courtside seats were filled with celebrities, of course—including game regulars such as Spike Lee, Timothée Chalamet, Tina Fey, and Jay-Z.

Even better than the thrilling game taking place on the court? The unexpected fashion moments that were happening off-court, in the audience. Sure, this was not meant to be a fashion show—but Knicks and Spurs fans treated it as so, sporting their best custom merch (Spike Lee in a jersey signed by Pope Leo!) and designer pieces (Timmy in his orange Chrome Hearts tracksuit!). Because you simply never know when you will end up on the Jumbotron.

Missed all of the fun fashion action while you were focused on the teams? Fear not: Below, scroll on for 10 unexpected fashion moments from last night’s Knicks x Spurs game. Come for a cheeky little band tee from Spurs player Stephon Castle—stay for Cardi B’s hot Chanel bag.

It's no secret that Chalamet, a well-documented Knicks fan, wears Chrome Hearts to practically every single match; The brand is basically his good luck charm at this point. His tracksuit came in Knicks orange, while the Chrome Hearts x Timberlands were his latest courtside shoe of choice.

San Antonio Spurs player Stephon Castle delivered an eye-catching tunnel look—thanks to his vintage Patti LaBelle tee from the 1990s, and Balenciaga tattoo-print sweatpants.

    The latest Bode boy? Jay-Z

While many celebrity attendees sitting court-side proudly donned their best Knicks merch (new or vintage), Jay-Z wore Bode's Lucky Draw jacket, adorned with embroidered four-leaf clovers. Clearly, he was channeling good-luck vibes.

Despite the Knicks x Spurs game having a strict no-bag policy last night, Cardi B—who delivered the halftime show—carried a hot It bag, courtesy of Chanel designer Matthieu Blazy. The mini leopard style was unveiled in the Métiers d'art 2026 collection and just hit stores. Leave it to the bag-obsessed rapper to score it first.

Knicks player Jalen Brunson sauntered down the tunnel walk carrying a multicolor little Damier-printed Louis Vuitton pouch. A little discrete, but a little flashy too—it was a fresh accessory that countered the big, honking duffels that sports guys typically carry.

Woods, proud WAG of Knicks player Karl-Anthony Towns, looked the part in her custom Knicks ensemble—right down to the orange and blue-hued Louboutin mules (complete with the classic red bottoms, of course). Chic.

Another Louis Vuitton don has entered the chat: San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama embraced double denim for his tunnel walk, punctuated with a cherry-red monogrammed Louis Vuitton duffel, designed by Pharrell.

    Spike Lee's Pope Leo homage

You can always count on Knicks superfan Spike Lee (possibly the biggest Knicks fan) to wear his best merch to the game. But last night, he wore a very special jersey: It bore “Pope Leo 14” on the back, signed by Pope Leo XIV himself. (Lee was invited to meet the Holy Father at the Vatican last November.)

New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani wore a custom Knicks jersey that read “Nuevayol”—an homage to the Bad Bunny song, perhaps?

Twinning: Tracy Morgan and Tina Fey

Tracy Morgan and Tina Fey are two things: Devoted Knicks fans, and former 30 Rock cast members. Given their history, it was only natural that they chose to twin in their white tees and sports jerseys—whether an intentional choice or not.
