As it turns out, 25 years later, orange is still not the new pink. Last night, at the Hall des Lumières in New York, the Legally Blonde cast gathered to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary and the forthcoming prequel, Elle—and there was plenty of pink to go around.
While Legally Blonde doesn’t officially turn 25 years old for a few more weeks, Reese Witherspoon et al. reminded us that there’s no time like the present for a reunion. Witherspoon updated her Elle Woods wardrobe with a pink satin zip-front Prada number from fall 2026. (There’s no last-season Prada here!) Co-stars Selma Blair and Ali Larter also nodded to the film with pink and black dresses, while Jennifer Coolidge paid homage to Paulette Bonafonté in a flowing, leopard-print caftan.

For the 2001 premiere in Los Angeles, Witherspoon opted for a pitch-perfect pink Marc Jacobs mermaid dress with a netted black overlay. (In a true full-circle moment, Witherspoon recently lent the dress to the Elle star Lexi Minetree.) Witherspoon’s then-husband, Ryan Phillippe, also embraced Elle’s signature color, pairing a magenta Gucci tie with a rough-and-tumble mohawk and aviators.
Premieres were a far more casual affair 25 years ago. Still, less formal does not mean less stylish. Just look at Larter, whose white lace off-the-shoulder dress, studded leather belt, and black Balenciaga City bag would be considered just as fashionable today as they were in 2001. Blair, meanwhile, opted for ’90s Ralph Lauren in a striped midi halter dress with a gold chain strap.
Below, in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary, revisit the 2001 premiere of Legally Blonde.
