Inside Forest Lodge, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s ...

Prince William and Kate Middleton moved into their “forever home,” Forest Lodge, back in November 2025, relocating from the quaint (and scandalous history-ridden) Adelaide Cottage where they lived with Princes George and Louis, and Princess Charlotte for three years. Across that time, they grieved the loss of the late Queen Elizabeth, and both Kate and King Charles battled cancer. A new house offered a fresh start. And while it was rumored at the time that the Waleses were set to move into Fort Belvedere—the former home of the Duke of Windsor—they settled on a different, yet equally grand property: Forest Lodge.

The family have lived at the property while the children study at Lambrook School close by. (Though George will head to Eton in September.) A recent post to the Prince and Prince’s Instagram now offers a rare glimpse at their home.

On June 17, the royals dropped a photo on Instagram to celebrate a visit to Royal Ascot. “A wonderful day at Royal Ascot. W & C,” read the caption, illustrated by a picture of the prince and princess side-by-side on a stone terrace in front of double white doors. A brief glimpse, but a glimpse nonetheless into what has been otherwise kept cloistered.

The eight-bedroom, Georgian-style home (which dates back to the 1750s) is nestled within the 4,800 acres of Windsor Great Park. Its brick facade features stucco pilasters as well as an expansive view: “From both fronts the house commands varied and extensive views of the forest, the Great Park, the castle and town of Windsor, with a fine stretch of distant country,” wrote Jane Roberts in her 1997 book Royal Landscape: The Gardens and Parks of Windsor. She also found that accounts of the home from the 1800s mentioned a garden by Humphry Repton. (Although no modern reports have confirmed whether it still exists.) Also on the grounds? A tennis court, a paddock, and a small lake. And inside, you’ll find both a sitting and drawing room boasting marble fireplaces. It’s also nearly double the size of Adelaide Cottage.

Forest Lodge has long been tipped as a property fit for a high-profile royal: in the 1970s, it was rumored that Princess Anne would receive the grace-and-favor house from the Queen. Meanwhile, in the 2000s, Forest Lodge was touted as a possible home for Sarah Ferguson, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew. Neither ended up moving in. Yet for the Waleses, it has been the perfect fit.

Prince William and Kate Middleton look settled and comfortable in their home, enough for George, Charlotte, and Louis to enjoy some happy teenage years there. (Before George heads to Eton, and prospectively Louis, and then Charlotte to any of the excellent girls schools nearby.) Regardless, for the Waleses, Forest Lodge is forever.
