As of Tuesday evening, King Charles and Queen Camilla’s official visit to the White House was well underway. The trip’s itinerary began yesterday morning, when President Donald Trump and Melania Trump welcomed the royal pair to the White House with a private tea ceremony and was followed by a historic address to Congress by King Charles. Both couples finished the day by gathering alongside Supreme Court justices, cabinet members, and other prominent figures— including Tim Cook, Jeff Bezos, and his wife, Lauren Sanchez—for an official State Dinner.

For the White Tie event, Melania chose to wear a powder pink Christian Dior Haute Couture gown, whose columnar silhouette was taken from Jonathan Anderson’s debut couture collection for the French maison. The muted color palette was in line with the pale yellow Adam Lippes skirt suit she wore earlier that day.

While it is customary for the first lady to wear a brand originating from the country of the visiting dignitary, Melania eschewed tradition. She often oscillates between American and European designers regardless of occasion: Take the Dolce & Gabbana pantsuit that she wore to this year’s State of the Union. Delphine Arnault, Christian Dior’s CEO, and her father, Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH, were both in attendance at her husband’s 2025 inauguration, and it is not the first time she has worn Christian Dior haute couture since. During the Trumps’ visit to the UK last year, Melania wore a gray Christian Dior skirt suit before changing into a yellow Carolina Herrera gown, a flip on yesterday’s American-into-European designer split.
