The Spa at Coworth Park
Liam Hess · 2026-04-24 · via Vogue

Welcome to the third iteration of Vogue’s global spa guide, a collection of the 100 best spas in the world, compiled based on first person reviews and careful editing. This year, we’ve renewed our focus on places that have established a reputation for exceptional care of body and mind, though there is a great variety in the list. Whatever you are seeking when it comes to wellness, there is something here for you.

Why go here?

If you’re seeking the perfect ratio of proximity to London (just a 45-minute drive from the city center or a 20-minute drive from Heathrow Airport) and utter serenity (it’s set in the Berkshire countryside on the edge of Great Windsor Park, with grounds that span over 240 acres), then Coworth Park is the hotel—and spa—for you. It’s owned by the uber-high-end Dorchester Collection, so unabashed luxury is the order of the day here—but not without sacrificing the character of the place.

You can feel it from the moment you pull up the elegantly landscaped driveway, where you might spot a chukka taking place on the world-famous polo fields, or guests wandering through an enormous wildflower meadow. Breeze into the central building, however—a Georgian manor house that was given a makeover in the late 2000s, prior to the hotel opening its doors in 2010—and the greeting is warm and convivial: the impeccably turned out staff in natty brown plaid suits and patterned silk scarves will spirit away your car then guide you to your room, which are spread across the main house and the various stables and cottages that make up their own miniature village just a few minute’s walk away. (I stayed in one of the latter, which had been redecorated recently for a slicker take on the hotel’s signature country chic style: I especially liked the clear cocktail tables, featuring autumn leaves suspended as if in aspic.)

But what you really want to know about is the spa, and Coworth Park’s is seriously impressive—it was already world-class, but last summer it reopened after a top-to-toe revamp and now features tastefully refreshed treatment rooms, a more extensive thermal circuit, and an expanded gym. Where many country house hotel spas lean into gimmicks, or too many bells and whistles, this is more of a classic spa, but one where everything is executed to the very highest degree, from Natura Bissé facials to massages using organic Wildsmith oils.

What’s the vibe?

If James Bond did spas, it would probably look a little like this. The Spa at Coworth Park is housed in an undulating, spaceship-like edifice artfully designed to blend seamlessly into the landscape of rolling Berkshire hills: the partially submerged building features a spectacular living roof planted with lavender, thyme, and chamomile, while the interiors focus on high-end organic textures, including carbon-neutral lime hemp walls and local stone. It feels a little like being at a high-end Swiss medispa, except it’s less than an hour from London and nobody will judge you for indulging in a glass of Champagne or two—though there is also a new spa café offering seasonal salads and fresh juices overseen by Coworth Park’s executive chef Adam Smith, if you’re seeking nourishment inside and out. (It’s also set in a lovely, light-filled space with views over the grounds.)

Downstairs lies the pièce de résistance: an 18-meter indoor pool surrounded by sofa-style loungers and a row of amethyst geodes placed on plinths that sparkle in the afternoon sun—and behind that, an elegantly designed wet area that includes a Finnish sauna, citrine-lined steam room, and a snow shower for that all-important endorphin rush. The atmosphere is hushed and just the right amount of glitzy—even if you’re not having treatment, simply spending a few hours here feels like being pampered.

The history?

The estate’s roots trace back to the era of Edward the Confessor in 1066, but the Grade II listed Mansion House standing today was constructed in 1776 for William Shepheard, a wealthy East India Company merchant. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the property became a revolving door for the British aristocracy, most notably serving as the home of the 17th Earl of Derby, whose presence solidified the estate’s deep connection to the nearby Ascot racecourse. The late 20th century saw the property transform once again under billionaire owner Galen Weston, becoming a global polo destination due to a partnership with Guards Polo Club—unsurprisingly, given its proximity to Windsor Castle, pretty much every major royal has visited or stayed here at one point or another—before its final evolution in 2010 into the Dorchester Collection’s signature country house hotel.

What should you try?

Coworth Park’s location in a very well-to-do green belt area so close to London means they have a very impressive range of facials on offer for all the yummy mummies nearby: everything from Wildsmith’s Skin “radical botany,” to the cult-favorite skincare brand Ishga’s products infused with Scottish seaweed, to more hi-tech offerings courtesy of the popular Spanish brand Natura Bissé. (If you want pure relaxation, they also have you covered: There’s everything from Himalayan quartz treatments—which involve being doused in sand, exfoliated, and primped with warm herbal poultices—to a Hebridean sound escape by Ishga, which features calming soundscapes, Ayurveda-style oil pouring, and a Balinese massage to round it off. Sounds blissful.)

I’d been on the road for a few days, however, so I opted for the signature massage, which featured just the right amount of limb tugging and folding to ease me in, then the proper, thumb-hooked-under-the-shoulder pressure you need to really loosen up that fascia. As I mentioned previously, they’ve got all the classics here exactly right.

What else do we need to know?

If you fancy dinner after a day at the spa, make sure you score a booking at the superb, Michelin-starred Woven by Adam Smith, which is located in the mansion house and offers a playful (but not overly heavy, despite the many courses you’ll see on the menu) take on classic British cuisine: I’m still thinking about the Old Winchester cheese and caramelized onion pastry, and the Coronation chicken served in a crisp, wafer-thin shell that came out as pre-dinner “snacks.” But back to the spa: If the weather permits, make sure to carve out a little time for taking in vitamin D on the glorious sun terrace.

Who can go?

You can book a spot for the day, enjoy the facilities as a guest of the hotel, or if you’re local, become a member and take full advantage of everything the spa has to offer, including the well-equipped gym and indoor pool.
