Any summer road trip plans coming up? No? Well, can we interest you in a Rhode trip? Everyone’s favorite billion-dollar beauty brand is back with a new Rhode summer collection all about bronzed, glowy skin. The campaign gave us a clue about the products to come: Hailey Bieber, with flushed, sun-kissed cheeks, traipsing through cityscapes and across the sand.
Aside from the limited-edition Peptide Lip Tint shades and flavors we’ve all come to expect each summer, Rhode’s makeup category is expanding overall. There’s a new Pocket Bronze stick and Highlight Milk, along with new shades of the brand’s lip balm and liner, plus fun accessories like a terrycloth towel and bag and the viral phone cases.
“We create a whole story and world around summer,” Bieber previously told Vogue Business—and that story has an experiential element too. Call it the Hailey Bieber effect, but no matter what launches, it seems to amass virality. There was the brand’s pop-up at Coachella for its Spotwear pimple patches, and last year’s Majorca beach club takeovers that added to the buzz. This summer, Rhode will quite literally be hitting the road with a slew of pop-ups across North America and Europe.
Its one-of-everything-good philosophy is hitting the right consumer pain points. Even I, a celebrity-beauty-brand skeptic, became a Rhode believer by way of the makeup categories—namely, the nonsticky lip balms with just enough color and the noncomedogenic blush that swipes on and blends out with a tap of the finger. Below, we break down and try each new product from the new Rhode summer collection. Spoiler alert: We love it.
Vogue’s Kiana Murden uses Rhode’s Pocket Bronze in the shade Drench.
Why We Love It: Fans of Pocket Blush will surely love Pocket Bronze. It’s the same on-the-go, retractable cream stick, but instead of flushed cheeks, Pocket Bronze (as you may have guessed) imparts sun-kissed warmth when applied to the high points of your face. Another similarity? The noncomedogenic formula, which features a blend of peptides and tamanu oil for hydration. Meanwhile, kaolin clay helps absorb excess oil and keep the product in place. Best of all, there are neutral and warm undertone options amid this pick’s eight shades.
Kaolin, tocopherol, glycerin, tamanu seed oil, peptides
Why We Love It: If Rhode’s Glazing Milk had a baby with a pearlescent liquid highlighter, it would be Rhode’s Highlight Milk—and I mean that quite literally. The Glazing Milk formula that everyone has come to know and love now boasts subtle illumination in four shades, from pearly pink to warm bronze. The usual star ingredients are still included: a ceramide trio, vitamin E, and glycerin. Sure, you can swipe this all over your face as a makeup prep under color cosmetics—or you can opt for a targeted application like a liquid highlighter or even (drumroll!) as a body luminizer.
Coconut alkanes, glycerin, mica, vitamin E, ceramide (NP, AP, EOP)
Four (pearly pink, pearly champagne, pearly warm bronze, pearly rich bronze)
Vogue’s Conçetta Ciarlo uses Rhode’s Peptide Lip Tint in the shade Macadamia Butter.
Why We Love It: Rhode’s Peptide Lip Tints have become a global and viral sensation. Aside from its nontinted sister (simply called Peptide Lip Treatment), Rhode’s range of lip tints has always excelled at combining a lightweight feel with maximum lip hydration, all in perfectly glazed pink and nude hues. The three new limited-edition bronzed shades each boast a summer-in-a-bottle scent. There’s no guesswork about what each color smells like—the names say it all. There’s Colada (a pearlescent warm tan shade), Macadamia Butter (my personal favorite, a caramel brown), and Honey Mango (a delectable bronze).
Shea butter, peptides, cupuaçu, babassu, lactic acid
11 (of the overall range, there’s three new limited-edition scented options)
Why We Love It: If you haven’t been able to quite find your shade of Rhode’s Peptide Lip Shape pencil quite yet, today might just be your lucky day. A quick refresh, though, for those who are new here. Rhode’s lip liner leans more toward cream than wooden precision pencil. Instead, the retractable tip is a bit thicker (a lot like a Korean lip liner) and aims to enhance the appearance of the lips by blurring the shape. The formula is packed with, you guessed it, peptides alongside fenugreek extract for added hydration. Now back to the new shades—Push (a soft neutral beige), Squeeze (a cool taupe), and Jump (a chocolate brown) are perfect for those with neutral or neutral-olive-leaning skin tones.
Synthetic wax, vitamin E, fenugreek extract, lactic acid, peptides
14 (of the overall range, there’s three new neutral options)
