What Vogue Editors Are Wearing to Travel This Summer
Elly Leavitt · 2026-06-24 · via Vogue

Where are you going this summer? This season is seeing team Vogue scatter from downtown Manhattan to all corners of the globe—from the Greek islands to the West Coast, from the Balearics to Zanzibar, suffice it to say our itineraries have little in common. The travel outfits, though, are another story. Curious to see how our editors balance freezing plane cabins with balmy destinations, we polled the team; and it looks like there’s one item in particular that’s a favorite across the board.

The one item that has near team-wide consensus—barring a couple votes for airplane denim, and one notable suggestion for an airplane skirt—is the plane pant. The favorites for the season are made from lightweight fabric, always with a pull-on waist, typically in black. These are the pieces that are comfortable enough to wear in transit; when not needed, they roll up tightly enough so as to take up next to no space in your suitcase. When it’s too hot to consider sweatpants, these are the next best thing.

From the weekender bags that can hold a surprising amount of cargo to the roomy button-downs that can be re-purposed as beach cover-ups and the sneakers that’ll get you through security with ease, here are nine editor-approved summer travel outfits to inspire your own.

Talia Abbas, shopping director

It’s always a similar formula when I travel: comfy pants (pointelle, yes, sweatpant, no), a super soft long-sleeve, and an extra plane sweater. I much prefer ballerinas over sneakers; they work for the trip and the destination. Ask me about accessories and I’ll tell you I’m never with a big claw clip (my go-to is Lié Studio’s) and my Alex Mill tote. I’ve tested the limits of how much it can fit on a recent trip back from Atlanta, when I hand-carried an antique wooden stool and still had room to for everything I brought in the first place.

I’m going back to Greece in August, and while I know these jeans and All Stars will not see the light of day until my return to JFK in September, they’re my go-to for the plane for warmth and comfort. What will be used on the actual trip is a roomy knit for wearing over shorts or a dress, because nights on the island get cold. I always bring just one, usually from Sézane, and right now that’s this oversized navy cardigan.

Traveling these days looks a little different—there are now two small dogs and one baby involved. I like to be as comfortable as possible without sacrificing style. A pair of terry track pants and a button-up shirt (styled with a knit around the waist) have never served me wrong. And yes, I wear flip-flops exclusively at the airport—judge me!

I think I have perfected the travel uniform, if I do say so myself. It’s built around my favorite essentials: Cou Cou Intimates’s black pants are soft and cozy, yet still look polished with a straight-leg silhouette when paired with a white tee and grey cardigan. For accessories, I love to travel with a statement bag, my trusty Salomons, and Ray-Ban Wayfarers–all pieces I can reuse during the trip and don’t have to worry about fitting into my carry-on.

I'll be taking a red-eye flight to Europe later this week for a wedding in Spain, and as soon as I touch down, I'll need to be bright-eyed enough to jump right into the morning festivities. With that in mind, comfort is key if I want to get a decent night's sleep on the plane. A hoodie is a must for me when flying—it serves double duty as a blanket and an eye mask. The rest of the outfit is all about maximizing comfort: lightweight pants and sneakers round out the ensemble.

Though I do normally travel in a skirt, the Citizens of Humanity Brynn trousers are equally as comfortable. Roomy and lightweight, they’re the sweatpant-jean hybrid of my dreams. I’ll pair them with a tank top or cami; that way, I can throw on my sweater whenever it gets a little chilly. On shoes, flats or flip-flops are my go-tos (read: something easily slipped on or off). Equally important are my Calpak carry-on and headphones.

I just got back from Barcelona a week ago, and this is more or less the outfit I wore to travel. I always reach for barrel-leg denim or a loose, tapered pant; something relaxed and easy for a long travel day. I styled it with a white tee and an easy crew neck sweater—planes are always freezing. My non-negotiables are my Away carry-on and the travel Cybex stroller (it’s so compact, it fits in the overhead bin) for my daughter. For my personal item, I recently got a vintage Prada tote from Vogue’s eBay Live—it’s now my go-to travel bag.

Zara

balloon paperbag pants

Madeline Fass, fashion market director, shopping

You never know if the plane or rental car is going to be well air-conditioned or boiling hot, so I stick to light layers and basics I can rewear later in the trip if need be. Skall Studio makes my favorite summer button-down; Almada Label’s pull-on pants feel elevated, but are most importantly comfortable, making them great for travel and beyond. Cushy flip flops are my go-to for summer travels (though I always bring socks with me for the plane).

I’m headed to a few different places over the summer—Canada, France, the UK, California, and Hawaii are on the schedule so far—but despite the variety of destinations, the travel uniform remains the same. My inspiration is early 2000s celebrity airport style: I’ll usually do flared yoga pants with a flip flop (I pack compression socks for the plane), and a tee or tank under a sweater to be ready for any temperature. I love pairing the Charlie Beads hoodie with a pair of dramatically big black sunglasses for maximum “hiding from the paparazzi” effect; though in my case I’m simply hiding my red eye-induced dark circles. My go-to pair are vintage, but I’m thinking of biting the bullet on the Thistles Atlas frames before my first trip. As for luggage, I am faithful to my Baggu Cloud tote, which fits everything I need and more (bonus points for all the cute prints it’s available in).
