The Met Gala is fashion’s favorite spectator sport. On this night, the guests are “players” and their “stats” are the number of times they’ve attended, what they wore, and the garment’s provenance. Naturally, models are always among the evening’s stars—they are professionals, after all, and famously easy on the eyes. As recapping their attendances of yore never gets old, we’ve created a kind of Met Gala Model “database.”
In it you’ll find Christy Turlington’s first known Met attendance—in 1992, looking like a latter day Holly Golightly in a black Versace column with pearls around her neck. Also in the mix: Naomi Campbell on the red carpet in an Azzedine Alaïa dress she wore down the designer’s runway (2017); Gisele Bündchen in a fringed and embroidered raspberry bias-cut scarf gown (2006); Kate Moss in Calvin (1995); and Liu Wen looking supremely elegant in a Saint Laurent black chiffon stunner (2024). Spanning from the ’90s to the present, this compilation includes links out to the runway debuts of some of these head-turning garments. Enjoy!
