How Women Over 50 Actually Style Their Bangs
TheStewartofNY
Gone are the days when bangs were solely known as the “breakup cut.” Now, bangs are a go-to for anyone looking to elevate their look—especially as we get older. “Bangs are one of the fastest ways to change your entire look without sacrificing length,” says celebrity hairstylist Clayton Hawkins. “They can soften the face, highlight the eyes, and balance proportions.”
“Bangs are really about framing,” adds Naeemah LaFond, celebrity hairstylist and Shark Global Ambassador. “They draw attention exactly where you want it…sometimes that small shift changes everything.”
You can wear bangs however you want, no matter your age. But as with any trend, there are a few favorites amongst the chicest women over 50. Below, we break down the best hairstyles with bangs that women over 50 are currently loving. No matter which you opt for, just remember: “The best version always feels integrated and easy,” says LaFond.

Soft Curtain Bangs and Long Layers
Both LaFond and Hawkins love a curtain bang. The key here is to keep it soft and have it melt into the rest of the hair. “It’s flattering, low-commitment, and grows out beautifully,” says Hawkins.

Wispy Fringe Updo
LaFond loves a wispy fringe, especially one that feels light and effortless. Hawkins agrees and adds that it’s important to keep hair from looking greasy. He recommends a product like the Sexy Hair Powder Play to soak up oil, while giving hair more texture and lift. “Plus, it’s such a small bottle, you can just throw it in your purse to keep with you on the go,” he says.

Side-Swept Bangs and a Sleek Blowout
Side-swept bangs can add softness and frame the face quite nicely. Pro-Tip: Use a paddle brush or even just your fingers to style. “As hair gets finer or more fragile, bangs need a lighter touch. I focus on keeping them airy and flexible, avoiding anything too heavy or flat,” says Hawkins. “I would avoid round brushes if you want to avoid that '80s mall look.”
Neil Mockford
The Blunt Bob and Bangs Combo
Bold and all drama (in the best way possible), blunt bangs make a statement. No matter what type of bang you opt for, LaFond says that you want to keep things lightweight, with a soft finish. She recommends using something like the Shark Glossi Blow Dryer Brush so it’s easy for you to shape bangs with control. “The end result should still feel effortless and touchable,” she says.

Micro Bangs and a Razor Cut Bob
Micro bangs know no age, and they’re arguably the most modern and coolest bangs out there.
When it comes to styling bangs in general, LaFond says that bangs need a light touch. “Anything too heavy can take away the movement,” she says. She recommends using something like the Olaplex No.6 Bond Smoother for soft control.
Mike Marsland
Birkin Bangs and Pin-Straight Strands
What better bangs inspo than Jane Birkin? The Birkin bangs are the type of full fringe that is sleek and timeless. LaFond emphasizes that bangs need a light touch and to use something like Oribe’s Featherbalm Weightless Styler for something to give you that polished look without the weight of heavy product.

Voluminous Afro With Curly Bangs
We’re all about celebrating curls in their natural state. LaFond says to keep bangs curly to match and embrace your texture. She recommends using something like the Pattern Beauty Styling Cream for styling.
