This year’s Cannes Film Festival offered no shortage of hair and makeup inspiration to bookmark. Case in point: Cara Delevingne’s effortless French-girl hair and Havana Rose Liu’s polished retro bob. Believe it or not, both looks had more in common than their lived-in texture—they were masterminded by celebrity hairstylist and founder and CEO of Rōz Hair, Mara Rōszak, utilizing her latest creation. “A texturizing spray has been on my wish list for years, but I could never find one that gave that lived-in separation and movement without the dryness or crunch that traditional salt sprays often leave behind,” Rōszak tells Vogue of the product, which officially launches on June 2. Known for her light-handed, effortless approach, Rōszak avoids anything that feels overly styled, preferring instead to enhance hair’s natural texture and movement. And so, Wave Texturizing Mist was born: a fine mist designed to enhance softness while still creating subtle structure and definition. “I wanted it to feel effortless—like hair shaped by the canyon air and wind, not by a heavy styling product,” she adds.

The latest launch from Rōz hair gives salt spray a whole new meaning. “Texture has always been such a big part of my work as a hairstylist,” says Rōszak, who prefers to work with her clients’ natural texture rather than against it. “Wave was created to enhance natural movement without any crunch or stiffness.” The undone, tousled, and touchable look is created through mineral-rich sea salt for grit without dehydration, while microalgae doubles down on hydration to keep lengths soft.
• Editor’s Experience: As someone who struggles with dry-leaning hair, the concept of a salt spray has always been one that I infrequently dabble in with caution. Beyond when I want my curtain bangs to stay in place, I’m completely averse to my hair feeling gritty. Then came Wave Texturizing Mist. I opted to use it as a finishing spray on dry hair, just as Rōszak does, post-blowouts and curls. The mist is ultrafine, which I appreciate, rather than an aggressive spritz. In lieu of hairspray, my blowouts and loose curls look more au naturel than hyperstyled and hold up throughout the day (without the crunch or grit I hate so much). That balance of texture and softness became the foundation of the formula. “Traditional salt sprays often rely on dehydration to create grit, which can leave the hair feeling rough or crunchy,” Rōszak says. In response, Wave Texturizing Mist reimagines the ingredient altogether, opting instead for sea salt rich in magnesium, calcium, and potassium to create structure without brittleness. But the formula’s true standout is red microalgae, which, as Rōszak explains, forms a breathable hydrating veil around the hair so it retains movement and flexibility. The result is hair that feels soft rather than stiff; piece-y and matte, but never parched. Think less post-beach dryness and more effortless California hair.

For those wondering what’s the difference between the latest launch and the brand’s well-loved Air Thickening Spray—yes, salt-based sprays versus thickening texture sprays serve their own purpose. “The difference really comes down to finish and feel,” pro hairstylist Merita Ibrahimi tells Vogue. “Sea salt spray gives you that soft, beachy texture. It generally works by lightly absorbing moisture, so the hair feels a bit more matte, airy, and undone—which is perfect for enhancing natural movement. Meanwhile, texture spray is more about volume and hold, building fullness at the roots and throughout the lengths.”

Versatility is also central to the clean hair-care brand’s latest offering. While most salt-based texturizers are designed for wet hair, Rōz’s mist works just as well on damp or dry lengths. Rōszak personally prefers using it on dry hair to add subtle grip to natural texture, break up a fresh blowout so it feels less polished and more lived-in, or revive second-day hair. Applied to damp hair before diffusing or air-drying, it creates a softer, more relaxed wave.

And the adaptability of the product goes even further when it comes to the styles that can be created. “If someone has finer or straighter hair, I love using a wand or flatiron first to create a loose bend, then finishing with Wave to break everything up for effortless texture and separation,” says Rōszak. “For naturally wavy or curly textures, it enhances and defines what’s already there and makes everything look more lived-in.” The product even works for undone updos, giving just enough hold and grip to keep the style in place, without looking highly polished.
