With infinite ways to interpret the “Fashion Is Art” dress code at the 2026 Met Gala, some attendees just preferred to keep it classic.
Of the eight subsections of the “Costume Art” exhibition, the classical body division, which centers around Hellenistic and Roman art, proved a popular jumping-off point for attendees and designers.
Unsurprisingly, guests favored drapery that looked as though it were carved from marble: Laura Harrier embraced the wet look in a draped Di Petsa gown, and Lindsey Vonn’s beaded trompe l’oeil Thom Browne mimicked swirling black-and-white marble.
Still, attendees proved that there was still plenty of room to get creative with classical art. Kendall Jenner and Zac Posen pushed the limits of the humble white T-shirt, transforming the basic into a GapStudio take on the Winged Victory of Samothrace, while Chase Infiniti—also in Thom Browne—gave the Venus de Milo a colorful update.
And, of course, leave it to Heidi Klum to take it to the extreme in a prosthetics-heavy interpretation of Raffaele Monti’s Veiled Vestal. When in Rome, right?
Here, revisit the 2026 Met Gala attendees who took inspiration from the classical body.
