Taylor Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce last summer was a striking tableau: the pop star and football athlete shared a carousel of imagery showing the couple surrounded by flowers. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the caption read. She wore a striped Ralph Lauren dress (an immediate sell-out) and sported her sparkling, elongated brilliant-cut old mine diamond engagement ring.
Cupping Kelce’s face, her manicure was—quite surprisingly—distinctly minimal. Taylor Swift’s choice of a buff and gloss compounded a trend for the “no mani” engagement mani: Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Elsa Hosk chose to go bare for their own, too. It feels timeless and low-key, less pressure on what can be one of life’s biggest moments—especially when you’re one of the world’s most talked about couples.

(A season after season hit, and a firm favorite of Swift’s and her pal, Selena Gomez.) Out and about, she’s worn her shorter, soft-edged square nails in a pastel mint shade, frosted pink, festive glitter, and chrome silver. And we can’t forget the sky blue nails with cloud art from her front row appearance at the Knicks game.

Looking at the current trends among contemporary brides, and those with summer wedding dates like Swifts, the going look is a simple, sheer gloss: it’s understated and eternally chic. At the same time, brides continue to look for ways to add their own personal touches and style points to their big day—and everyone knows Swift likes to weave an Easter egg or two into her looks.

Photo: Getty ImagesNail artist Nicole Marien predicts Swift will opt for a “classic bridal manicure with a modern twist.”
“I think sheer pinks, milky nudes, or a soft chrome finish will make an appearance, which screams elegance, timelessness, and fits perfectly with her style,” she adds. “Although she does love a statement manicure, wedding nails tend to be all about longevity, and I think she’ll want something she can look back on and still feel just as beautiful in 20 years. A subtle shimmer, minimal French, or an icy glazed finish would be the perfect balance between classic and personal.” If Marien was creating the look for Swift, she calls out The GelBottle’s classic BIAB shades, such as BIAB 019 paired with Iced Chrome Pigment, to create a soft, elegant combination that feels both timeless and now, while still retaining a sense of personality for the girl who loves a fresh set.
