At Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream, there’s a new flavor on the menu: Vogue à la Mode.
The limited edition, signature flavor—a creamy mint with crunchy bites of chocolate espresso honeycomb—is in honor of Vogue’s new summer issue, which celebrates America’s 250th birthday and features Gracie Abrams on the cover. On Tuesday evening, editors, designers, models, chefs, authors, and friends of Vogue braved the rain and humidity to toast the issue (and taste the flavor!) at an ice cream block party hosted by Chloe Malle on the Lower East Side.

Guests—including Nara Smith, Jonathan Cohen (and his dog, Layla), Devyn Garcia, Sara Grace Wallerstedt, Gigi Burris, Tinx, Max Ortega, Indré Rockefeller, Charles Shaffer and Elizabeth Cordry Shaffer, Ifrah F. Ahmed, Shilpa and Miro Uskokovic of Hani’s Bakery, Liana Satenstein, Anna Archibald, and Kevin Serai—popped into Morgenstern’s old-school ice cream parlor for scoops of ice cream, then drifted into a gallery where Eddie Wrey’s photographs of members of the U.S. World Cup team and model Imaan Hammam were on display. Next door, the windows of Iconic Magazines were filled with copies of Vogue.
Attendees wore their summer best, accessorizing with umbrellas and “I Voted” stickers from the Democratic primary. Some went back for seconds of both the magazine and the ice cream. In between spoonfuls, the designer and CFDA/Vogue finalist Zoe Gustavia Anna Whalen said that the flavor was “everything that you want ice cream to be.”

Nara Smith

Surveying the scene, Smith added: “It just feels very reminiscent of how summer used to feel, growing up, where you’d go to the ice cream shop and meet up with all your friends, and everyone’s having a great time.”
Lanyards in tow, a group of Vogue Summer School students stopped by to join in on the fun. As everyone chatted, flipped through the new issue, and enjoyed the ice cream, only one cup ended up facedown on the floor. The spill—and accompanying sadness, which was quickly rectified with a fresh scoop—only amplified the feeling of bygone summer afternoons.
