Choosing vacation accommodation is a bit of an art form. It’s a decision that goes far beyond the location alone: It’s about how you want to live while you’re there, coupled with tactical details like how much space you’ll need and who you’ll be traveling with. Boutique hotels and luxury lodging abound—but for the traveler in search of ample square footage and a bit of privacy, a standard rental isn’t going to suffice. What’s needed is more immersive. A space that feels transportive, personal, and spacious. What’s needed, you may discover, is an entire villa.

Vogue’s Favorite Airbnb Villas:

Picture a hilltop home in the Italian countryside. The antique furnishings worn just right; centuries-old stone walls and views of rolling hills greeting you each morning. Dreamy. But villas aren’t limited to just the European countryside (though, obviously, there’s no shortage of incredible options). From the coastal cliffs of Costa Rica to open-air Indonesian retreats, luxury villa rentals span locales and design sensibilities—if something rustic and Tuscan is not for you, something modernist and Mexican just may be.

We combed through Airbnb’s most compelling villa listings to find the stays that deliver on atmosphere and architecture (plus, the privacy to roam around and use the property as you wish); all that’s left is booking the flight.

Authentic Tuscan Villa, Italy

Surrounded by olive groves and old-growth vineyards, this recently restored 16th-century estate offers a cinematic stay in the heart of Tuscany. The expansive hillside villa offers three bedrooms and two baths, with the interiors featuring charming architectural details like exposed beams, stone walls, terracotta floors, and a grand fireplace—all in an earth-toned palette that complements the landscape.

While the interiors are peppered with tasteful art and textiles, its historic bones and outdoor areas are where this property really shines. A panoramic terrace with a pool (there’s an additional one inside, too) frames the mountains and hills. It’s a setting that feels very quintessentially Tuscan; plus, it’s only 30 minutes from Florence, striking a balance between country and city life.

Spread across two connected structures, this riverside villa in rural Jarabacoa in the Dominican Republic is an architectural gem that fully blurs the indoors with the out. With natural materials throughout, open-air gathering spaces, and plenty of room for guests (it can sleep up to 14), it’s designed for slow, communal living with every inch fully opening up to its lush surroundings.

Rebuilt by its owners after a fire, the villa balances the past with the current, incorporating salvaged elements alongside design features like limewashed surfaces, modern woven furnishings, and an overall minimalist approach. The four-bedroom home is truly centered around connection—book this for a bachelorette trip where your group may not know each other well, and watch everyone become instant friends.

Rooms: 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms

Amenities: River views, garden views, fireplace, full kitchen, WiFi, daily staff service, outdoor dining

Does the idea of waking up in the South of France to views of the Provence countryside sound appealing? Then look no further than Villa Olea. The home spans five bedrooms, with four bedrooms in the main house and one in a separate apartment, accommodating up to 10 guests total. The entire space has been thoughtfully renovated to adapt to modern living—the kitchen is designed with artfully arched tile and Smeg appliances.

The interiors lean into natural materials and a restrained palette, letting the original bones of the structure shine. Towering windows and outdoor access keep the landscape in view at all times, while terraces, a heated pool, and surrounding olive groves extend the square footage. With Lourmarin’s markets, restaurants, and vineyards just minutes away, it’s an ideal choice for both slow days and easy outings.

If you’re looking for an escape that challenges what you think when you hear “Italian countryside,” this Airbnb is it. In Sicily’s Val di Noto, this four-bedroom hilltop villa is so much more than a place to stay, it’s an architectural wonder built by notable firm Fondamenta. It blends right into the landscape with native stone, open-air living, and views stretching from the mountains to the sea.

Everything, from the living room (which is punctuated by cream Mario Bellini sofas) to the all-white kitchen to the bedrooms that embrace pared-back design, open up to the greenery outside. Even the pool follows suit: Carved into the terrain, it acts as part of the land. This villa is all about the blending of architecture, art, and nature.

The three-bedroom home balances character with a livable layout, with two dining spaces with pebble stone floors, a wood-burning fireplace, and an antique wood table. Additionally, it boasts a country kitchen, cozy library, and a separate office and wellness space.

“Drenched in earthy glamour and sublime elegance” is how the Airbnb listing describes this clifftop dream in Tinos, Greece, and we would have to agree. Not every villa earns the word magical, but this one, located high above the Aegean with two swimming pools and an ancient monument-like structure, comes close. The five-bedroom house is an architectural melding of earthy forms, sculptural lines, and sweeping views. Beginning with the suite-style living spaces and reaching across the dual kitchens, you’ll embrace a nearly monastic approach to design; outdoors, shaded dining areas invite everyone for open-air meals.

The Abruzzi House is an Architectural Digest-featured 1960 gem set on seven acres, defined by its curved beam roof and floor-to-ceiling windows. The mid-century furnishings give the home a collected feel, while the central living space offers both a fireplace and access to wraparound terraces.

The outdoor experience shifts with the seasons: Use the pool and decks in summer, and the hot tub and fireplace in the cooler months. (Adventure-prone travelers, you’re in luck: The property also features private trails for exploring the grounds year-round.)

Set amongst rice fields in Ubud, the home blends tropical modernism with local craftsmanship, with four bedrooms that open out to green views. The loft-like ground floor is designed for gathering with an open kitchen, dining area, and living space. The aforementioned natural stone pool plays well with the surrounding landscape, while curated Indonesian art and handcrafted teak furniture bring warmth and texture.
