The 2026 Met Gala, “Costume Art,” is less than three weeks away, and we’re waiting with bated breath to see attendees grace the Met steps. Top of mind are our esteemed co-chairs, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams, who will all offer their best interpretation of the evening’s dress code, “Fashion is Art.”
We have a little habit here of sharing our red carpet wishlists. Take them merely as a case of dream dress-up or a suggestion. So we did just that for our own 2026 Met Gala co-chairs.
With a broad theme like “Costume Art,” which concerns itself with the dressed body in the Met’s vast collection, there is runway inspiration abound. Perhaps the co-hosts could channel the Rococo and Baroque art movements in something regal from the Christian Lacroix archive, or lean into Moschino’s campier interpretations. Or they can reference specific painters, like Yves Saint Laurent’s ode to Picasso or Dilara Findikoglu’s nod to Sandro Botticelli.
The co-hosts could also lean into the body of it all. While there is plenty of diaphanous dressing to choose from, there is a rich history of skewed proportions in fashion, from Comme des Garçon’s 1997 “lumps and bumps” collection to Schiaparelli’s body moldings from fall 2025. The anatomical body is also in play: see Olivier Theyskens’s below-the-surface pieces and Rokh’s hands-on design.
Here, see 21 looks that we would love to see Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams wear to the 2026 Met Gala.
