At 41, LeBron James still embodies the postseason persona like no other. The Los Angeles Lakers star is serving as the NBA’s most consistent face across more than two decades of playoff basketball.

Although, this year’s postseason could easily be checked in the short list of unmemorable ones.

The Lakers face a must-win Game 4 against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night at Crypto.com Arena. That is the current scenario seeing how they managed zero wins in the first three games.

L.A’s season is on the brink and it has James to thank for even making it this far.

He has contributed solid production throughout the playoffs, averaging 23.1 points, 7.8 assists and 6.1 rebounds in nine games. He is also logging 38.1 minutes a night showing no signs of slowing down.

Despite James’ playoff feat, the challenge against the defending has proven trickier than the first-round series against the Houston Rockets.

LeBron James’ Close to Rare Playoff-Pedigree Stain

Heading into Game 4, the Lakers are looking for a historic comeback as their only way out. However, the game holds more weight than that of Oklahoma City, which closes out the series tonight.

According to ESPN, a loss in Game 4 will add to James’ rare list of postseason games without a win in a series.

“If OKC beats L.A. tonight, it’ll be just the fourth time LeBron James has been swept in his career as well as the earliest round he’s been swept,” ESPN wrote in a post.

It is hard to see how the situation will change for James and the Lakers. The Thunder has exerted a clean dominance over them this season winning all seven meetings between the teams in 2025-26, including these three games in the conference semis.

This is the most consecutive wins against the Lakers in a season, regular season and playoffs included since the 1976-77 NBA-ABA merger.

Saturday’s Game 3 was the highlight of the entire series. The Lakers held a halftime lead albeit a slim one but they ended up losing by 23 points. The same thing happened in Game 2 and they lost that one by 18 points.

Everything that went right against Houston has gone sideways against OKC. Game 4 is now more of a playing-for-pride situation for James and co.

Can James Rally The Lakers To Avoid A Sweep?

James contributed 19 points, six rebounds and eight assists on 7-for-19 shooting Saturday. Adding that to the 27 points he scored in Game 1 and 23 points in Game 2, it becomes clear that the Lakers are not suffering from a James problem.

L.A. for what it’s worth can agree that this series has been a complete mismatch for stretches. Those one and two-point leads in Games 2 and 3 respectively, are as good as it has gotten for the Lakers in this series.

Game 4 provides an opportunity to avoid a sweep and for James to keep his playoff sweep record at three series. To do that however, L.A. will have to beat OKC for the first time this season.
