LeBron James only player over 40 to lead Playoffs in Points, Rebounds and Assists

The Los Angeles Lakers moved into a strong position in their first-round playoff series with a 101-94 Game 2 win over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena. The victory gave Los Angeles a 2-0 lead as the series shifts to Houston for Game 3.

LeBron James led the Lakers with 28 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, continuing to take on a central role with Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves still sidelined. Marcus Smart added 25 points, while Luke Kennard contributed 23 as Los Angeles relied on balanced scoring to secure the win.

The result not only strengthened the Lakers’ control of the series but also highlighted a historic performance from James, who continues to produce at an elite level in his 23rd NBA season.

James’ Game 2 performance added to a unique set of milestones in NBA history.

He now holds the records for most playoff points, rebounds, and assists per game by a player over 40. The marks place him at the top in all three major statistical categories for players in that age group.

His production came at key moments. James scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Lakers maintain their lead as Houston attempted to close the gap late.

One of the defining sequences came in the third quarter. After the Rockets briefly took the lead, Los Angeles responded with a 13-4 run. James highlighted that stretch with a reverse dunk after driving past Kevin Durant, helping the Lakers regain control at 67-59.

The performance continued a pattern through the first two games of the series, with James handling scoring, playmaking, and rebounding responsibilities in the absence of the team’s top guards.

Game 2 followed a similar script to the opener, with the Lakers building leads and responding to Houston runs.

After trailing early in the first quarter, Los Angeles closed on a 9-0 run to take a 33-26 lead. The margin grew to 46-31 before the Rockets answered with a 17-3 run to cut the deficit to one point before halftime.

Kevin Durant, who returned after missing Game 1, scored 20 of his 23 points in the first half. However, he was limited to just three points after halftime and finished with nine turnovers.

Houston briefly moved ahead in the third quarter, but the Lakers’ response proved decisive. Los Angeles outscored the Rockets 21-17 in the period to take a 75-68 lead into the fourth.

The Rockets made one final push, cutting the deficit to 85-82 on a Josh Okogie three-pointer with 6:38 remaining. That was as close as they would get.

A turnover by Durant in the final minute led to another James dunk, extending the lead to five points. Kennard then sealed the game at the free-throw line.

Alperen Sengun recorded 20 points and 11 rebounds for Houston, while Jabari Smith Jr. added 18 points and Amen Thompson finished with 16 points and nine assists.

Despite those contributions, Houston struggled to maintain offensive efficiency late in the game, particularly after Los Angeles made halftime adjustments.

The Lakers, meanwhile, continued to execute with consistency even without Doncic and Reaves. Their depth and defensive effort have been key factors in taking a 2-0 series lead.

With the series now heading to Houston, Los Angeles is well-positioned to advance. James’ historic production and leadership have set the tone, while the supporting cast has delivered timely contributions on both ends of the floor.
