Former reality television star Spencer Pratt’s campaign to become Los Angeles mayor may be picking up steam in California, but the ladies of The View made their skepticism clear during a recent broadcast while discussing his qualifications for the job.

Joy Behar could not hold back her laughter on the show after Sunny Hostin shared, “Spencer Pratt is now comparing himself to President Obama.”

“What? Snapchatter of the Year is not the same thing as head of the Law Review at Harvard?” Behar sarcastically responded.

Hostin shared a quote in which Pratt said, “I have two awards from my community. President Obama actually didn’t even have any awards when he was a community organizer. He was able to become a senator and then a president for 8 years so I feel like him and I have the same experience.” Pratt made the statement in a television interview with NBC Los Angeles‘ Conan Nolan.

“Spencer Pratt, sir, you don’t have the same experience, you don’t have a law degree from Harvard Law School,” Hostin said. “You were not a senator. and there are baby steps you can take, like why not run for City Council?”

Earlier in the broadcast, Behar listed Pratt’s awards and qualifications compared to current L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, who will be seeking reelection.

“I just want to make this point. So Karen Bass has a JFK Profiles in Courage Award, she navigated California through the worse economic crisis since the depression,” Behar said. “Spencer Pratt was Snapchatter of the Year at the 2018 Shortie Awards. That’s all.”

The moment earned some laughter from the audience as Hostin shared that she has her own reservations about Pratt’s qualifications for the job.

Hostin said “the problem” she has “with someone like Spencer Pratt throwing his hat into this particular race” is that he would be inheriting “the second largest city budget in the country.”

“He is not qualified for it and we see what happens when people are not qualified for their jobs,” she said, throwing some shade to President Trump and his administration.

Hostin did acknowledge that this country has seen celebrities become successful politicians in actors Arnold Schwarzenegger, who served as governor of California, and former President Ronald Reagan. “That’s not to say this hasn’t happened before,” she noted, adding that Reagan and Schwarzenegger could just be “anomalies.”

But Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed that a law degree does not necessarily make a politician effective.

“Look at all the qualified professional politicians with all of the legal degrees and Ivy Leagues who just bent the knee and were complicit,” Haines pointed out. “I’d much rather have someone with less qualifications and chutzpah getting in there.”
