The end is near for Starz‘s beloved hit Outlander. After twelve years and eight seasons, the romantic series is finally coming to an end. In less than 24 hours, the world will know how the love story of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) ends, at least on screen.
Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts has kept details of the series finale under lock and key. Only a precious few people know exactly how the show ends. The cast and crew shot multiple endings and Starz has not shared advance screeners of the episode with journalists. That means that when Outlander drops on the Starz app later tonight, everyone will be discovering together what happens to Claire and Jamie.
When we last left our heroes, they were bidding farewell to Lord John Grey (David Berry) and William Ransome (Charles Vandervaart) and returning to Fraser’s Ridge. The penultimate episode of Outlander ended with Benjamin Cleveland (Turlough Convery) demanding that Jamie join him and his men in an impending battle. We all know — thanks to Frank’s (Tobias Menzies) book — that the Battle of Kings Mountain is supposed to ultimately claim Jamie’s life, but will it?

We won’t know how Outlander ends until tomorrow! In fact, most of the cast and crew don’t even know how it ends! That’s because they shot multiple endings to the epic show.
When DECIDER visited the set of Outlander Season 8 back in 2024, Heughan did tell journalists that one of the possible endings he read was very close to what Diana Gabaldon secretly told him was going to be her ending in the books.
“Who knows what the actual ending will be? I don’t know specifically. We’re going to shoot various endings, but I don’t know which one they will use,” Heughan said. “But I think one of the ideas, one I’ve been asking for pushing for, is very similar to like how Diana’s book will end.”
That said, Gabaldon recently told DECIDER’s Caitlin Gallagher that her books will end differently from the show. “The book has a completely separate ending,” Gabaldon said.
