It’s a tale of two different teams.
On Thursday, June 25, Moisés Caicedo’s 0-1-1 Ecuador will fight for their life as they attempt to advance to the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup when they take on Jamal Musiala’s dominant 2-0 Germany — who have already secured a spot in the next round — at East Rutherford, NJ’s MetLife Stadium.
If you bleed Ecuadorian yellow and blue or want to see Germany before they move on, last-minute tickets are available for the match at the Jets and Giants’ home field.

In their first two games, Germany defeated Curaçao 7-1 and took down Ivory Coast 2-1. Deniz Undav has led the way for the club scoring three goals…as a substitute.
“It’s important that everyone sees that even the players from the bench can decide games,” said Undav, according to The Post. “Now we have a really important signal to the team. I think that’s very important in a game like this.”
Ecuador hasn’t had as charmed a route to this third and potentially final match. They dropped their first match against the Ivory Coast on June 14 and then tied Curaçao 0-0 six days later.
As of now, the club is yet to score a goal.
This was expected. Ahead of the World Cup, The Post noted that “the question is whether La Tri can score enough to make it all work. Striker Enner Valencia is their leading scorer, but comes into the World Cup at 36 years old. Attacking midfielder Kendry Páez is highly talented, but there are questions about his attitude.”
Will they change their low-scoring ways against the elite German squad who happens to be resting? Or will this be their swan song?

Although transit to the World Cup has undoubtedly been a hot topic, there are quite a few options to get to the Meadowlands for the games (rather than walk as some out-of-towners have suggested).
These are your best bets:
• Eat the $105 round-trip cost (slashed from a previously-announced $150) and take the NJT. Trains will be running back and forth to Secaucus Junction where you can transfer to the Meadowlands rail line, which takes you two minutes away from the Stadium.
• Board the official NYNJ Stadium Shuttle. Direct round-trip buses can be picked up at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Midtown East in Manhattan, and the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine Park-and-Ride in New Jersey. Be aware that tickets must be secured in advance through the New Jersey Transit World Cup platform. The major downside here? Potential traffic. The major upside? The Post reported that “round-trip bus fares for fans attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been cut by 75%…from $80 to $20.”
• Risk everything and book an Uber or Lyft. There are drop-off and pick-up zones outside MetLife. The major detractor here are likely exorbitant surge pricing and wait times. Proceed with caution here!
