Comedy actor Adam Scott is going full horror in his new movie Hokum, a new terrifying haunted house movie that opens in movie theaters nationwide this weekend.
Written and directed by Damian McCarthy (known for his other horror films Oddity and Caveat), Hokum stars Scott as a novelist named Ohm Bauman, who absconds to a remote inn to scatter the ashes of his late parents. Unfortunately for Ohm, the honeymoon suite at this hotel is very haunted. He’ll be dealing with more ghosts than just the memories of his parents, that’s for sure!
The Hokum supporting cast includes Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh, Michael Patric, Will O’Connell, Brendan Conroy, and Austin Amelio. The film first premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March, where it was met with positive reviews from critics. There’s no doubt that Hokum has horror film fans buzzing, so if that’s you, you probably want to see this one in theaters for maximum scares. But if you’d rather wait to watch the movie at home, then read on to find out what we know about when and where we expect to be able to watch the Hokum movie on streaming.
Hokum will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S., U.K., and Ireland, in theaters on Friday, May 1. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Hokum is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Hokum is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Neon release, and most Neon movies stream on Hulu, not Netflix, thanks to the Neon and Hulu output deal. Hokum will be available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime after the movie is released on digital, but it will not be available to stream for free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is not a Prime original.
If you want to watch Hokum movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Hulu.
If you’re new to Hulu, you can get started with a 30-day free trial on the streamer’s basic (with ads) plan. After the trial period, you’ll pay $10.99/month. If you want to upgrade to Hulu ad-free, it costs $18.99/month.
If you want to stream even more and save a few bucks a month while you’re at it, we recommend subscribing to one of the Disney+ Bundles, all of which include Hulu. These bundles start at $12.99/month for ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu and goes up to $32.99/month for Disney+, Hulu, and Max, all ad-free.
You’ll likely see Hokum streaming on Hulu sometime in the next three-to-six months. (Provided the Hulu app isn’t phased out before then.)
The Hokum Hulu release date has not yet been announced, but we can make an educated guess based on previous Neon releases on Hulu. Another Neon movie, No Other Choice, began streaming on Hulu about four months after it opened in theaters. If Hokum follows a similar release pattern, you may see Hokum on Hulu around early September 2026.
On the other hand, another Neon release, It Lives Inside, began streaming on Hulu just three months after opening in theaters—so it’s not a hard and fast rule.
It’s all speculation right now. If you want to see the Hokum movie ASAP, your best bet is to see it in theaters.
